Let’s quickly move over to classical music: Here, the B38 knows excellently how to convince even those who don’t like it of the beauty this genre has, for example when the “Concierto de Aranjuez” is played. The fine dynamics demanded here are offered by the Burmester with confidence, in a way that even excites hardened and experienced fans of hi-fi. Depending on the angle and width of the base, the guitars occasionally sounded a bit too strict and minimally tied up, but could easily be brought back onto the path of virtue by small corrections concerning the positioning.

The airiness and generosity in the reproduction of the solo instruments as well as the entire orchestra was convincing as well – fortunately even when one did not enjoy the privilege of taking the central position on the sofa. Thus, even several people can enjoy the quality design together, which consists mainly of the polished aluminum front lacking visible screws and the slim silhouette.

What about the topic of “Rock” though? Nobody has ever doubted that a Burmester speaker can play rock music anyway, right? If you do: look around for a Burmester distributor and listen!

Bass extends low and has good sub presence, so if your IEM can render it, you’ll be very pleasantly surprised. The bass layering is really nice, and the presentation is clean and natural. In short: you get top quality, natural bass with an engaging and musical character

The mids connect perfectly to the lows and they have the same amount of body. The mid section is spacious, precise and ultra-clean. The mids have an airy and natural presentation, and this  combined with a very rich timbre, excellent decay and perfectly black back ground. Because of their naturalness and analogue character the mids are very easy to listen. The P6’s lower regions are great but the mids are even more spectacular. As said, some find the vocals to be very forward, but I don’t really feel that’s the case. If they are it’s just a tiny bit.

With rock masterpieces, like the cut “Hotel California,” from the Eagles remarkable 1994 reunion tour, Hell Freezes Over [Geffen GEFD-24725], while the kick drum is located solidly deep into the stage and left of center, is created with enough impact to move your pant leg cuffs. Queuing up choice cuts like “Under the Boardwalk,” from Ricki Lee Jones’ 1983 Girl at her Volcano 10-inch EP [Warner 1-23805], or with the Poco Adagio from the sublimely powerful Symphony No. 3 by Camille Saint-Saëns [RCA LSC-2341], the bass is not only deeply yet accurately extended, with no bloat or overhang, it is presented with a palpable sense of weight and pressure that is uncannily like that experienced live. Granted, considerable credit for this illustrious accomplishment must be attributed to the abilities of my remarkable VSA ULTRA 9 loudspeakers, but I have heard amplifiers, some considerably more costly than the Amp I, that suffer an obvious roll off as they descend into the nether regions, giving up both pitch definition and slam.

And as such, spatial cues were recreated almost as well as I have ever experienced, with realistically sized instruments regenerated with a sense of bloom or body that was unmistakably correct, recording dependent, of course… as not all recordings can deliver to the same degree on these attributes. Listening to recordings like the Cisco Records release of Steely Dan’s Aja [Cisco Music CLP-1006], the London Solti / CSO’s Beethoven’s Ninth [Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab MFSL 2-516], or even some QSound spectaculars like Sting’s The Soul Cages [A&M Records 75021 6405 2] or Roger Waters magnum opusAmused to Death [Netherlands CBS/Sony (2) 468761 0], and I quickly realized that the Amp I could wrangle staging and imaging queues just about as well as can be accomplished.

Rounding-out the included accessories for the A8000, Final ships the A8000 with five different sizes of silicone tips, handily designated for the left and right shells by virtue of either red or grey silicone used to attach to the IEM bore. Eight sets of IEM replacement nozzle dust filters are provided, along with a pair of ear ‘hooks’ to help keep the ear-loops in place should the cable themselves not work mechanically with your ears.

The electrical code for house wiring requires a certain wire size for specific types of circuits. The most common 15 amp circuit requires 14 gauge wires. Higher current circuits require heavier gauges. It’s acceptable to wire a circuit with a heavier gauge than code requires. It is against code to start at the power source with one size wire and then at some point in the circuit increase the wire size. The larger wire will handle more current and could overload the smaller wire resulting in a potential fire hazard. The reverse is, however, acceptable. In other words going from a larger to a smaller gauge is acceptable as long as the smaller gauge meets code. And yet, how many audiophiles use standard 15 amp / 14 gauge circuits and then connect heavy gauge aftermarket power cords. To address this in my own system I installed five dedicated circuits, three with 6 gauge, and two with 10 gauge wire, as well as using high quality duplex outlets. My understanding is that larger wire gauges better reject EMI / RFI interference. I also use two ground rods dedicated to my sound equipment and isolated from house ground.

The Model One enclosure has proven to allow remarkable sonic performance even in my nearly 50 m2 reference listening room, where the Acelec monitors more or less show their true potential at 27db noise floor, 0.47s total RT60 time, and properly addressed room modes, Model One were operating far, far outside their given proportions. 

I also heard the Model One in two smaller listening rooms, but for safety’s sake, I wanted to give them the freedom to show their mojo in my main studio. And the results were pretty amazing. I am no stranger to active, smaller pro audio speakers, where you can achieve a certain level of impressive performance even with a small, self-powered studio monitor. But, the Acelec monitors are passive, and as such performing boldly in a larger listening environment certainly is a great challenge.
