” The majority of the YK1 bass weight is focused on mid-bass warmth and fullness between 80Hz to 200Hz. The driver is not quite as powerful sounding as the SK1 but retains the same tonal balance on its low end. Bass roll-off is gradual starting around 80Hz and falling away a little more dramatically sub-50Hz with around a 5-6dB drop to 20Hz.

“The Bluetooth app is perhaps the least impressive part of the PB16-Ultra/SB16-Ultra package. It’s easy to read and won’t take you long to get used to (there’s an in-app tutorial to guide you), but I did find it sometimes being laggy in operation and had some ‘not-in range’ drop-outs despite standing right next to the woofer. Also, the sliding scales on the parametric EQ system are quite fiddly to operate on a smartphone. A phablet or tablet will provide a better touchscreen canvas.”

” When I popped the RE800 earbuds in for the first time I had a “show me” attitude. I used my iPhone 6S for most of these early auditions, and the RE800s’ transparency was readily apparent, even in the noisy NYC subway. That, and their seriously potent bass was so deep I thought for a second it was the subway train’s rumble! The headphones’ 9.2mm driver has a slightly higher-than-average impedance of 60 ohms; no worries, my iPhone didn’t have any trouble driving it.”

” After all those years I’ve finally experienced a V-Moda Headphone. The V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless left me a positive impression overall with it’s great build quality, form factor, style and usage. To be honest with you, sound is not up to my liking overall. When I look at it in an objective manner though, it’s a great headphone for bass lovers and fun sound signature. Also I really liked the performance on movies and games, even tough it has a very good sound for music listening.”

“A fully featured and, above all, easy to use analog-based recording system. One principle feature of all lower cost vinyl ‘ripping’ systems, often ignored, is that the better the quality of the original source the better the final ripped file. Hence, Pro-Ject was not only brave, but sensible in choosing the higher quality Debut as an analog source for this system. The company could have easily have defaulted to a cheap and cheerful system that would have worked fine, yet it would not have been able to properly handle the highest resolutions at 24-bit/192kHz or DSD. Pro-Ject should be applauded for their design choices! Yes, this package may be a slightly niche choice, but I welcome the very fact that this choice exists.”

“Overall I was very impressed with Meze’s newest offering. The 99 Neos offer a very similar performance to their wildly popular 99 Classics, but come in at a $50 USD lower price point and while note as fully refined in the sub-bass and treble regions, they do offer a very similar overall experience that still had me smiling! The comfort, noise isolation and build quality is exactly what we have come to expect from Meze and when coupled with the very musical, clean and ultimately enjoyable sound quality, these headphones should be a very strong consideration for you if you’re looking for a wonderful pair of portable full-sized headphones!”
