It dug into the crunch-groove of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” with plenty of gusto. During the Manhattan Jazz Quintet’s rendition of “Autumn Leaves,” brass transients were swift, and solo piano was reproduced with good note-to-note articulation, although some of the finer elements of ambient information and harmonic air seemed a little squeezed. As one would expect with a loudspeaker of this spec, there was some dynamic compression. But with a few exceptions MySpeaker adeptly handled just about every example of sonic firworks ”

It’s a right angle jack which will prevent accidental strain or breakage but won’t be a favorable choice if you use third party battery packs on your mobile device. “With rock music like Icelandic rock band Kaleo’s “Way Down We Go” from their album A/B (16-bit/88.2-kHz, TIDAL MQA Master), the bass was tight and with greater weight than I’m used to through the HD800 cans. For those who are of the opinion that the HD800 phones have thinness to their bass, one listen with the CMA800R will prove otherwise. The Sennheiser HD800 phones have never sounded as balanced as they did with the CMA800R, and I found this to be true with every music genre I listened to, including very dynamic classical and bass-heavy hip hop.”

“I was excited to have the opportunity to review the Aries Cerat Diana Forte power amplifier. Yet, at the same time, I wasn’t very excited about it. My main speakers are certainly not the type that welcome relatively low-powered tube amps, even if this amp might the highest-powered stereo SET amp on the market. I’ll remind readers that I said I would nominate both Aries Cerat owner/engineer Stravos Danos and Aries Cerat’s US distributor Believe High Fidelity’s Joshua Masongsong for a Nobel Prize if the Diana Forte amp sounded as good as Joshua said it would though my large electrostatic speakers.”

“The $14k Hartvig TT belt-drive turntable system’s construction and use of materials, such as a MDF and acrylic-sandwiched plinth, a 2-inch acrylic platter over another 2-inch of aluminum platter are exotic and impressive and serves remarkably as the foundation of a high-end system. This construction exoticness and total turntable mass makes the Hartvig notable amongst similarly priced, substantial turntable designs although it’s highly economical footprint does make for a polarized appeal. By the same token, its ability to assume a pure, non-intrusive sonic footprint, however, is remarkable for the size. ”

“I was eager to try a few headphones with the BasX A-100, and started with my Audeze Sines. I usually listen to the Sines plugged into my iPhone 6S, but here with the BasX A-100 the Sine’s soundstage bloomed, and dynamic punch much improved. I experienced similar epiphanies with my Grado SR325e headphones. The BasX A-100 is one heck of a good-sounding $229 headphone amp.”
