Audionautics GmbH REVIEW

” This reflected in the generally laid-back attitude which lacked springiness like an underdamped car suspension; and particularly from the lower midrange on down, exhibited telltale limpidness regardless of musical programme. In short, the anti child to maniacally popping slap bass. Even plucked acoustic bass and usually snarling oud attacks exhibited less piss & vinegar than was realistic. Sitting a lot closer upstairs and not doing music but mere BBC-style soundtracks to accompany this or that TV series, this hadn’t telegraphed to the same extent. Spinning anything with club beats now felt quasi castrated – too undersprung if you will. Since the very considerable current delivery of the XA30.8’s twenty Mosfets per channel didn’t improve this aspect, I’m quite sure that the air exchange through that floor-facing hole isn’t ideal to load these drivers.”

FRITZ SPEAKERS CARBON 7 SE LOUDSPEAKERS $2,500 – REVIEW

“Well, it looks like Fritz Heiler has done it again. Another day, another great monitor speaker. This one, though, is really special in that it strikes a superb balance between musicality and resolution, as well as between speed and a warm, comfortable languidness. It’s like a sunny day that’s just the right temperature; you don’t want it to end, but it’s all okay when you down that last sip as the sun sets. That’s pretty much how I’ll feel when I got my last listen in before boxing these babies up and sending them on to their next destination”

“The soundstage is fairly compact, but it’s precisely layered and stable. The DAC in our Naim NDS/555PS streamer certainly goes wider, having more of a sense of space, but the Zodiac still satisfies.”

Yamaha NS-SW1000 Subwoofer $2,499 Preview

“Advanced Yamaha Active Servo Technology II dynamically compensates for the negative effects of speaker impedance and is said to maintain better control of the subwoofer’s driver for cleaner audio reproduction. The NS-SW1000 uses the latest Yamaha DP200 digital amplifier integrated circuit, which supports a high current MOSFET discrete push-pull design for the output stage. This, along with a triple-wound litz wire, high capacity output coil and specially designed capacitors allow this subwoofer to reproduce extremely powerful low frequencies.”

“Archphile on the other hand is a solution for those who already know some of the things mentioned in the article or have the will to do some basic studying. The code behind this OS is based on Arch Linux, runs with the smallest CPU footprint imaginable (1% average CPU usage!) and at the moment this is the only MPD-OS that offers SACD .iso playback.”

“The Munich show would be in May. This meant working overtime. At first we thought we could show final Swiss production units but that proved flatly unrealistic. By mid April however, we had built up our targeted five Brazilian pairs. My chassis fabricator was literally working night shifts and weekends to make it happen. Now it transpired that a very wealthy individual whom I know very well and who had sponsored this project from the very beginning had unexpected personal issues as things progressed. He had to pull out. Of course I understood perfectly. But now I was faced with how else to satisfy all the commitments I’d already undertaken. We quickly put our five pairs of amps in the car and visited audiophiles all over Brazil who were rich enough to afford anything in hifi that takes their fancy and who in general are deeply invested in and passionate about this hobby.”

“Apart from being relative in nature, my ratings also indicate some sort of absolute quality. Let’s say I thought IEM A lost out to IEM B in terms of Treble Smoothness. In this scenario, let’s imagine that A was actually pretty good- B was just better. So how do I reflect this reality? How do I indicate that A was good to begin with, but then also account for how much better B was? To solve this I ended up using this scale”

” Impressive to relate, the Pro-Ject arm is actually the limiting factor to even higher performance. An identical Nagaoka MP150 in an Audio Note Arm III on my Twin sounds even better, trading off a tiny amount of absolute depth for even better detail and three dimensionality. This might be the lowest rung on the Avid ladder but it is still at a higher level than much of the competition. ”

Focal Spirit One S Headphone $250 Review

“More audiophile-oriented fare, like trombonist Thurman Green’s Dance of the Night Creatures CD upped the One S’s credibility. The sound was transparent and very open for a closed-back headphone, with solid, clearly defined bass. The One S’s keen balance was beyond criticism. NAD’s sweet Viso HP50 headphone did nothing to alter that opinion. It was less transparent on Joel Frederiksen’s gorgeous Nick Drake tribute album, Requiem for a Pink Moon. Vocals in particular sounded incredibly present and natural; the One S just let them be.”

Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 V2 Review

” All music listened to has been either ripped to the server or downloaded from the usual websites. The downloads are in some cases hi res files but as the Stream Magic up-converts everything to 24 Bit 385 kHz this is a bit academic. Before howls set in might I point out that the majority of the music I listen to was recorded originally on tape and up-converting does not make those recordings hi res, just up-converted.”
