IsoAcoustics Component Stands: Magic or Science?

“The IsoAcoustics website includes a helpful tool: You plug in the model name of your speakers and it tells you which of their stands will work best. My speakers are Focal’s Solo6 Be model. I entered their name, and IsoAcoustics’ search engine provided the Focal’s dimensions and weight and recommended the ISO-L8R200 stand used in its normal, vertical orientation. The ISO-L8R200 is a basic black stand — I really wanted to try the new and very swoopy Aperta stands, made of aluminum. But I decided to take IsoAcoustics’ advice.”

“have been very happily surprised by the ELAC FS77 loudspeakers. They are an attractive loudspeaker that delivers a bigger sound than one would expect from a compact floor standing model of this size. The frequency extensions are well catered for, and of special mention is the bass quality, which allows the musical flow and timing of your favorite tracks to be enjoyed and relished.”

AURALIC TAURUS AND MERAK PRE-POWER COMBINATION

“There were really no major changes until around 300 hours of playing music through the system. Sonically, the system has continued to improve with further playing time, the minor timing accents have finally been released from their captive bind, the initial harshness and fatigue is gone and finally there is an overall sense of ease. Spatially, instruments and voices are now realistically portrayed in their own very large space, not too forward and with all the subtleties of live music. The more hours clocked up, the better it is sounding. Patience has its rewards.”

” Its contrast is heavy. And its bass, at once slamming and foot-tapping, tends to bottom out when given a job too big. Jobs too big for it include lots of slamming mid and upper bass. ”

HiFiMAN EF100 $500 hybrid headphone amplifier

“Listening to the beautiful Nuevo-Tango tunes from MA Recordings’ Sera Un Noche high-res offerings, for instance, puts me in that recording space and helps me to envision the spread quite naturally. The spaciousness of Garfinkle’s recording is the stuff of legend, of course, but because spatial cues can be somewhat delicate these are also easily masked by overtly colored components. Contrastingly, the acoustic signature and the general studio-sound of Sufjan Stevens’ album, Seven Swans, is more readily apparent than it has been with other setups I’ve had here. As a bit of a neutral-reference, the EF100 seems well-suited to the task. –

“There is no perceptible difference in quality of signal between low and hi gain when driving voltage hungry headphones. When driving earphones, hi gain doubles the amount of background noise, which, by the way, is considerable”

” The 598’s extreme detail, revealed subtleties that are imperceptible on lesser headphones. The music bounced around from ear to ear creating the illusion that we were in the middle of an orchestral performance. The open back design made for a spacious sound stage.”

Blumenhofer Loudspeaker €24’900/pr Review

” mall footnote: Upon first setup, I’d gone with the -2dB treble contour to be happy. A few days later, I investigated the horn’s time alignment which after all is adjustable with that movable sled. This option predominantly affected the stage’s depth illumination and outline sharpness aka the plasticity of individual sounds. But it also pooled into my perception of relative treble strength. One can dial the horn for ‘hyper crisp’. And at first that was me. That extreme focus was impressive just then. After a bit though it began to wear and to feel like an image that’s been photoshopped for extra sharpness, with that unnatural edge pixilation as a result. Exactly that disappeared when the time alignment locked in properly. Think rounder edging which was more natural than the laser-cut bits. This also benefited the illusion of three-dimensional voices and instruments. Where I was really going with this is that the scalpel-crisp version also was tonally brighter. I thus recommend to spend some time on this time alignment whilst paying particular attention to focus, definition and spatial illumination. When those values fit, the last thing to trim is the perfection of the tonal balance.”

“Soundstage depth and dimensionality across the front three speakers was impressive, and the Model 5000’s sound balance was ever so slightly on the warm side of neutral. There’s gobs of detail and resolution, but the sound never grated on my ears.”

NHT SuperBuds Review

April 4, 2015 Comments Off on NHT SuperBuds Review

http://goo.gl/vzh2K4 Read Here

” Coming back around to sound, it almost seems like NHT set out to out-Beats the Tour 2.0 by tuning the SuperBuds to be slightly bassier, warmer, and richer-sounding. The SuperBuds’ bass is a little slower and its midrange – a little more veiled – but the smoothness can sound more natural and the presentation is a little less compressed. The Tour 2.0 is marginally clearer, a bit less full-bodied, and less forgiving at the top. It is also worth noting that the Beats are significantly more sensitive – potentially an issue for the SuperBuds with listeners who wrongly equate loudness with sound quality.”
