There are certain things about the I-240 that I wish could be different. For one thing, it could have a wider sound characteristic, it’s centred and pristine yes, but this is where I believe the 25 watts have their limit; it isn’t that volume and intensity lack, it’s more the limitations of a more expansive soundstage. There’s no phono stage, only RCA connections, and for purists, the additional dBs from XLR are not present. Not including digital inputs will drive away some audiophiles. However, Margules set out to create a very high-end, pure-sounding amp, as well as a beautiful component, and that’s what they delivered: they set their sights on sound.
The Margules I-240 at USD 7000 has to make a Sisyphean climb in the mountain of integrated amplifiers today. I would invite you to look for Margules at audio expos or go to your audio dealer and ask to listen to one. If you do this, I can imagine that the decision to pull the trigger will be easier. It was for me. This is a marvellous and beautiful integrated amplifier and is highly recommended.

Shanling EH2 $369 Review

This feature acts as a real-time indicator, allowing users to verify that their high-resolution digital source remains unaltered throughout the playback chain—an invaluable tool for audiophiles who want to ensure bit-perfect transmission.
To the right of the volume knob, the EH1 includes a dedicated gain button, which toggles between high and low gain modes for better compatibility with sensitive IEMs or demanding full-sized headphones. Additionally, a separate power button is conveniently placed on the far-right side of the unit.
In addition to the volume knob, the EH2 features dedicated bass and treble adjustment knobs, a relatively rare inclusion in desktop DAC/Amps.
These allow users to fine-tune the tonal balance of their audio in real time, offering a convenient way to shape the sound signature without needing external equalizers or DSP software.

PlusSound Sonora $2,999 Review
March 2, 2025 Comments Off on PlusSound Sonora $2,999 Review
The construction of the Sonora, thanks to the fully aluminium material and CNC process, is exceptional. The standout feature of the design is that the aluminium is remarkably sturdy and solid, yet the IEM remains lightweight. Thus, you enjoy both a robust build and lightweight shells combined. Overall, it boasts a worthy design and construction, which is to be expected given the price. Design is always subjective, but I found the new Sonora appealing with its attractive gold-coloured faceplate, red body, and sharp angles. Undoubtedly, it presents a very special and premium aesthetic from PlusSound.
In terms of the cable, PS utilise custom hardware for connectors and plugs; in this instance, the cable boasts exceptional quality. It is expertly braided with remarkable consistency. The hardware is remarkably good. The 2-pin connectors must be aligned with the logos facing inwards, as the screws need to be outward, which is contrary to the approach of many other manufacturers.

Noble FoKus Rex5 TWS Review

Opening the Noble FoKus App I selected “Personal EQ” to try out the Audiodo Sound Personalization Software. This proved to be a different process than I experienced with previous FoKus headphones, testing each ear individually, the results were rather interesting and did seem to improve the sound though I did decide to take a second test when my ears were more rested. The results of my second test were very interesting, while the results of my initial test showed a similar curve for both left and right ear with my left ear being about 5 dB more sensitive than the left, in a rested state my right ear flattened out a bit and high-frequency hearing sensitivity increased significantly on both, which is something I expected hence the second test.

Grado Labs Signature HP100 SE Review
February 28, 2025 Comments Off on Grado Labs Signature HP100 SE Review
The Grado Labs Signature HP100 SE Headphones, newly constructed and advanced in every way, are now the true flagship of the Grado line. I do not know of another more neutral, more transparent, and dynamic headphone on the market that challenges their performance. There are many new features to read about in this review, but most notable is the ability to detach the cables. A first for Grado, ever! Power them from a DAP or a fancy head amp, and enjoy a you-are-there level of reality that will cause you to rethink dynamic headphone capability.
I am not surprised that the folks at Grado Labs took this new direction in headphone development. I am surprised at how big a leap forward in transparency and dynamic range was achieved with the HP100 SE.
