TempoTec V3 $199 Review
February 28, 2025 Comments Off on TempoTec V3 $199 Review
When I reviewed the TempoTec V6 for my blog, I found it to carry very good levels of detail and clarity, without much coloration.
The same can be said of the V3, with very good extension up top. The low end carries on with aplomb and fairly good control. Reaching fairly deep as well, the V3 provided an overall level of detail that should be appreciated by most listeners.
I appreciated the sound signature with its ability to portray a natural, realistic signature that portrayed the intent without coloration or any false sense of sound heard throughout the testing.

Perlisten R18s THX Dominus 18″ Sealed Subwoofer Review

I can only conclude that when Perlisten designed the R18s, it understood that there was a gap in the premium sealed subwoofer market in need of filling. That a machine combining the displacement offered by an 18-inch driver, the refinement of an audiophile-quality true high-end hi-fi design from a company focused on measurable, provable high fidelity, plus the relatively compact nature of sealed subwoofers, which allows for impressive bass extension and delivers the significant displacement needed to achieve it, these things come together in a superb subwoofer that, in my view, hits a Goldilocks price point, a Goldilocks performance point, at a Goldilocks size. It is a clear Sound & Vision Top Choice selection for a premium sealed subwoofer, but it also gets the unofficial triple-Goldilocks award for really nailing what a premium sealed subwoofer should offer.

RAAL 1995 Magna €5.399 Review

Comfort wise we of course can’t ignore the 515g this headphone weighs, but I do have to say I find the Magna to be quite comfortable. For comparison, the Immanis weighs 610g .Yes, there are lighter and more comfy reference headphones, but I do find the headband (cushioned with suede and stitched in a stylish diamond pattern) to do an excellent job distributing the weight. The side pressure for my head is good (making it safe to move around), but I can see how it would be too tight for some of you. Of course there are ways to stretch out the headband. The fancy silver-like adjusters on the yokes make it easy to perfectly adjust the headband and earpads

PS Audio PowerPlant 15 and 20
February 26, 2025 Comments Off on PS Audio PowerPlant 15 and 20
The PowerPlants have a significant input and output passive filter design, meaning they do not need additional filtering. Moreover, as PS Audio indicates, adding extra power conditioners to the input or additional filtering to its output may be undesirable.
As a variant to the standard sine waveform, the MultiWave function extends the peak charging time of the sine wave, so connected equipment has more energy storage and less power supply ripple. The result is a smoother sound with a larger soundstage than when using a simple sine wave

xDuoo XA-02 Review
February 26, 2025 Comments Off on xDuoo XA-02 Review
Headphone amplifiers that use ESS chips are normally on the warmer side of the listening spectrum, and the XA-02 is no different. Using ELNA capacitors contributes to this warmish tonality, but not so much that the signature is too smooth.
Instead, the XA-02 exudes a mature sound that sounds good across various genres, without minimizing each genre’s impact on the sound.
In other words, a brighter, more energetic sound still comes across with a bit of verve, just not as much as a DAC/amp with a brighter tone to it, might. Instead, the signature still emulates the intention quite well.

Fosi Audio V3 Mono Power Amp Review

Speaking of numbers, thanks to the use of Japanese Nichicon filter capacitors, ELNA capacitors, German WIMA capacitors, and Japanese Sumida inductor, the V3 Mono is able to reach THD as low as 0,006%, SINAD of 101dB and an SNR as high as 123dB. Impressive values, helped by a four-layer PCB, further optimizing the work done by the manufacturer upstream.
Another nice feature of the Fosi Audio V3 Amp, is the use of swappable op-amps. If provided with two Texas Instruments NE5532 by default, the amp can also be fitted with chips like the Burson V7, the MUSES02 or even the classic Ti OPA2604.

Dan Clark Audio – DCA Noire X Review
February 25, 2025 Comments Off on Dan Clark Audio – DCA Noire X Review
Inside the box is dominated by the hard case that houses the folded-down DCA Noire X headphones with both the single-ended and balanced cables sitting in their zip-lock bags under it and paperwork hidden in the very bottom. In terms of papers, we get a quick user guide that explains the basics of using the DCA Noire X and a slightly comically old-timey-looking authenticity certificate complete with gothic lettering.
The included hard case seems quite sturdy and will protect the headphones inside from bumps and scratches when traveling. My only gripes about it are that while it houses the folded headphones nicely, there’s no room for the cable. And the fully folded DCA Noire X headphones seem to squish the earpads’ upper portion, which didn’t feel right to me for long-term storage.
