Antipodes Audio DS music server review

” The Antipodes DS’ cosmetics are subtle and sleek, with minimal external controls. It’s a compact but hefty, squared-off unit encased in a matte-finish aluminum alloy with barely visible heat-sinks protruding from each side. The internal CD ripper’s access slot is visible near the top of the faceplate. Once powered up via a switch-mode power supply, a front panel button brings the DS to life; its blue light also glows from within the DS’s internals through a see-through top plate. Antipodes recommends leaving the unit on 24/7″

Lumïn M1 Streaming Amplifier/Player

” Obviously it is relatively inexpensive system so one can’t really expect the same level of performance as from high end system consisting of separate components. But when I listened to it I never really thought about advantages of much more expensive systems. M1 delivers good enough performance to make it truly interesting. It is capable of differentiating different recordings and I think its owners won’t really have any reasons to complain about M1’s performance. Especially considering that in many respects what they will get will be so refined that many even more expensive systems won’t be able to match (in these respects) this level of performance.”

Boost Music Quality with DACs and NAS Drives

” Bottom line: Make sure that the standalone DAC, DAC/amplifier combo, or A/V receiver with a built-in DAC is able to handle 24-bit, 92kHz audio files. Keep in mind that if you already own a great amplifier and a digital audio player, and can already play back audio files that are FLAC, ALAC, and the common lossless WAV, you can get a standalone DAC that will take that great content and hand it off to your amp.”

BURMESTER MC151 MUSIC CENTER $25,000 Review

“These differences in sound quality are very limited, however, when compared across a very wide range of recordings, and you would probably prefer the Burmester if you like nearfield listening or enjoy sitting in the front of the concert hall—to be as close to the performance as possible.
There also are important trade-offs in features that you need to carefully consider. The EMM Labs XDS1 sells for $25,000. It is only a DAC and SACD/CD player, and does not store music, allow downloading, or have any network features.”

Antipodes DS Music Server Review

” I used the DS as a server feeding a number of DACs including my reference Auralic Vega as well as the T+A player and the DS improved the overall sonic performance in every case. I did not try playing music from a NAS since 4TB of storage is plenty for me. If you read my review of the Antipodes DX, you’ll read that I found that a mounted NAS sounded nearly as good as playing back from internal storage. Since VortexBox supports third party apps including IckStream, you can also play from streaming services including Tidal Hi-Fi, which I did, often. Sound quality wise, Tidal sounded just great and I’d add noticeably better than when streaming from my MacBook using the Tidal App.”

Cary Audio DMC-600 Special Edition Digital Music Center $7995 Review

” As a DSD planet player, I cannot be critical of the Cary as it performed flawlessly and, to me, wonderfully as, unfortunately, I do not have any substantive experience with DSD before my time with the DMC-600. Nonetheless, the heart of it all: the DAC, sent a wonderfully, impactful, crisp yet smooth signal throughout my listening experience. ”
VISION EARS VE5 CIEM REVIEW

” All of this came packed in their rather excellent large hard carry case which I still rate as the best in the business bar none with tons of room for a soft pouch, additional cleaning tool, the quarter jack adapter, some stickers and the VE5 itself. The case looks incredibly durable with some nice print decal on the top which you can custom order in advance.”
