” I ran in the HE1000 with my usual nightstand system. That’s one of our AIFF-loaded 160GB iPod Classics on a Pro-Ject dock. This sends out digits first to a Wyred4Sound Remedy, then the coaxial input of the Lilt DAC/preamp from Russia (MSB/TotalDAC style discrete R2R conversion, resistor-array analog volume, single-ended output buffer with triode-connected direct-heated pentodes). That shiny machine supplies unattenuated analog signal to the Bakoon AMP-12R integrated. Admittedly a gilded setting upward of €10’000 for just the electronics, this was flatly appropriate for the ambitious HE1000. Despite its awesome ear-coverage size, it’s a very smooth comfortable operator. The pliable perforated skull strap which is made of something resembling sanded suede causes no contact irritation like other bigwigs even when their thicker bridges are padded with copious foam. The pads are lined in faux leather except for the actual contact rims which are velour.”
