BEYOND FRONTIERS AUDIO TULIP SRPP INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER

“. The Tulip SRPP sounds like that ideal combination of a valve preamplifier combined with a transistor power amplifier, and in this case a subtle, highly refined transistor amp. It doesn’t have the fist-clenched grip that you usually get with such high power ratings, but neither is it a lightweight. Rather it manages to deliver an evenly balanced sound with a deft, light touch; there is an open transparency to the mid and top that is all valve, but the midrange isn’t pushed to the fore leaving bass and treble lagging. I did most of the listening with Bowers & Wilkins 803 Diamonds and the Vivid B1 Decade”

“And both outputs hold good signals under load well. In fact, mean deviation from 0dB is among the least you’ll find in Astell&Kern’s catalogue. That means strong bass, flat-field mids, and extended highs. Now, you shouldn’t expect any Bluetooth amp/DAC to spit signals as clean as a good smartphone. And the XB10 is no exception. But, pepending on the metric (and the DAP or phone), it nabs way better crosstalk numbers.”

“And that’s the key to Here in a nutshell: achieving balance. Live mixing is a tricky thing for actual live engineers, but once you get the hang of Here’s flexible EQ options, you’ll create the best front-of-house mix at every show you attend, no matter the inherent challenges of both venue and artist. At this point, I can’t imagine attending any show going forward without them in my ears. Hear hear, Here.”

AUDIOVECTOR SR1 AVANTGARDE ARRETÉ STANDMOUNT LOUDSPEAKERS REVIEW

” I think you can best describe the SR1 Avantgarde Arreté’s performance as being possessed of an absence of compression. This tends not to be an immediate identifier –most will initially like it for its fidelity, its natural way of dealing with percussion and bass notes, and that sheer speed of delivery. But these all ultimately conjoin into one extraordinarily uncompressed sound. You tend not to notice this ‘whole’ because you are too busy enjoying the improved aspect of sound you focus upon, be it detail, soundstage, dynamic range, micro-dynamic subtlety, vocal articulation”

SUGARMAPLE OD300 HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER $930 REVIEW

“I particularly found the Sugar Maple OD300 a wonderful match for my Sennheiser HD800S flagship headphones. These headphones are notoriously difficult to drive “properly” and can come off as a bit dry or clinical when the amplifier isn’t really up to par. This was certainly not the case with this wonderful tube-amplifier”

“It’s precise, stable and layered with care. The claims made for wide dispersion ring true, as the imaging doesn’t falter when we move away from the (relatively) wide sweet spot.”
