Elemental -Watson Hybrid headphone amp Review

” The amps most standout points when it comes to sonics would be its slightly thinner treble tone that does account for it being a more excitable product and beyond that, it is full sounding with a spread out soundstage. It can also easily be categorised as your traditional warm valve based piece of electronics, just with the injection of energy. The bass is thick and firm, I wouldn’t say it is that woolly, soft type of low end you get with some tube amps. It really compliments the HD800, which is not known for copious amounts of bass and the combination has a really hard hitting low end! The midrange seems to edge towards clarity which makes sense as the treble is airy and exciting. I find the treble to be the weakest area, sometimes making tssh like notes and feeling just a bit feeble. It’s no tragedy don’t get me wrong, as I said it still plays well with my Sennheiser’s which can easily sound unlistenable if the treble gets too out of hand.”

Wharfedale Diamond 225 loudspeaker Review

” This is an exquisitely recorded production. Every bit of Debussy’s poetic fingerings and soft-pedal expression captured on the paper Welte-Mignon rolls was “re-animated” on a carefully restored 1923 Feurich-Welte reproducing piano and recorded with a stereo pair of vintage Neumann KM 83 microphones. Through the Diamond 225s, Debussy’s piano sound was larger than I expected, tangibly solid and surprisingly three-dimensional. To the Wharfedales’ great credit and my pleasure, I enjoyed wooden hammers, metal strings, and some little sense of the piano’s soundboard.

FIIO X5III 3RD GEN REVIEW
March 12, 2017 Comments Off on FIIO X5III 3RD GEN REVIEW
” Fiio’s TOTL DAP, the X7 (with my favorite AM2 card loaded), costs around $479 for the moment on Amazon.com. It is faster in general usage and it updates the library faster as well. With both players you get more or less the same functionalities but the X5iii is the easiest to use because of its design/layout. The X7 is faster and more reactive. The X7 has less noise than the X5iii when using sensitive monitors. Compared to the X7/AM2 combo, the X5iii sounds a little sharper where the X7 is cleaner and more precise. The X5iii is close to the X7 and the X7 is closer to the i5. Compared to the X5iii, the X7 still wins on technicalities and I don’t see any reason why you should turn in your X7 for an X5iii. They’re both great players, I prefer the sound and usability of the X7 but the design and lay-out of the X5iii.”

Peachtree Audio nova300 Amplifier Review

” The nova300’s way with music also makes for a more forgiving all-arounder as compared to the Lumin. Funkadelic’s Free Your Ass And Your Mind Will Follow is not the greatest sounding recording (streaming from Tidal) but it completely kicks major ass through my own rig and the nova300 delivers its own robust goodness. The Lumin, less so, because it accentuates the mid-upper and upper frequencies by making them stand a bit apart from the rest. Getting even pickier on the Lumin, I’d say it has a slightly metallic sound up top as compared to the honeyed smoothness of the nova300.”

Dynaudio Focus 600 XD Loudspeaker Review
March 12, 2017 Comments Off on Dynaudio Focus 600 XD Loudspeaker Review
“The Dynaudio 600 XD sound smooth to my ears no matter where I sit on my 3 seat couch. The frequency response measurements correlate very well with what I am hearing. The transient response and stereo phantom image is excellent and correlates well with a time coherent loudspeaker. Transparent keeps coming to my mind. At no time did I hear any noise, hum or distortion from the speakers.”

“Classical music also sounded larger than life if not quite as refined. Daniel Barenboim’s 5 CD set of Schubert Sonatas is a fabulous new collection. When the speakers were placed near the back wall, the sound was infused with some grain. Moving the speakers out into the room cleaned things up nicely. Barenboim’s exquisite touch was heard readily. And when macro dynamics were demanded such as the opening movement of Bruckner’s mighty Ninth Symphony, the power handling of the woofer’s 75 mm voice coil was exceptional. A mighty sound from such a small enclosure. Remarkable.”

” I’m not sure what Taylor Swift has more of: No. 1 singles or ex-boyfriends. Regardless, she knows how to write engaging music, and “Blank Space” is no exception. The song has an airy feel to it and harks back to the year in the title of its host album, 1989, with a synthesized beat that draws you in from the first note. But when the young lady starts to sing, the bass track kicks hard—really hard—and again, the d110s shined brightly. The bass response was tight and articulate, and it didn’t linger in the room for even a moment longer than it was supposed to. Impressive would be an understatement.”
