‘The sonic difference between the Rim Drive vs the Belt Drive is one of personal preference. They do sound quite different. On the 1st movement of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, with Bernstein directing NY Philharmonic Orchestra (Analogphonic DGG 423 395-1), the Rim Drive offers a more upfront and robust presentation which brings you closer to the front seats At the same time there is great accent on bass extension, and more colors and weight on the individual instruments. The belt drive delivers a more laid back presentation with less solid images and less bass impact, but you’ll get more top end ambiance, more finesse, more harmonic decay and a more relaxed sense of “musical flow”. The same can be said of “The Music of Pablo de Sarasate”, performed by Aaron Rosand (VOX STPL 512.760) The belt drive mechanism delivers more harmonic richness to the sound of his famous Guarneri del Gesù violin, allowing more of the microdynamics to come through as his bow dances on the strings.”

“With Sopra No1s in the your system, amplifiers or other upstream components that sound coarse or grainy, or send other sonic garbage downstream will quickly be revealed as inferior. Don’t blame the speaker if your preamp, DAC or other system component no longer sounds so good. The Sopra No1 is a very revealing speaker, but its extreme neutrality is just a window on your music. These speakers do not editorialize that music in any way. The next speaker on this audiophile’s wish list is the upmarket Focal Utopia Diablo. Even though I can expect that speaker to be better, the Sopra No1 still earns the rating below. It does not deserve a lower rating just because there might be something better out there. The Focal Sopra No1 is a highly communicative, extremely entertaining and completely satisfying loudspeaker. ”

“The A10 is a sophisticated product that makes enjoying music simple. It is a true reference level piece. For the Headphone Aficionado, it may be the missing piece to a system that is reference but does not require a desk full of gear and a tangle of expensive cables. The A10 performed beautifully with open and closed cans, Planar Magnetic, Dynamic, whatever I paired with it and for you two-channel speaker users it also worked perfectly as a Pre-amp with my amp and speakers. It has an excellent DAC. It can replace several items in your system in one beautiful box. What’s not to like? Highly Recommended!

“I could stream all day about streaming—but here I should mention a glitch I encountered, perhaps five days in, when using a wireless connection between the MP 8.2 and my router: The AVM suddenly, and for no apparent reason, dropped the connection. I was busy with something else when that happened, so it wasn’t until a couple of hours later that I shut down the system, remade my Ethernet cable connections, rebooted the system, and set about remaking the wireless connection. It worked for less than one full song, then the AVM again dropped the connection.”
