” What about something classical and more dynamic like Herbert von Karajan’s One Hundred Best Classics compilation? When listening to some of the symphonies, the Continuum S2 painted a grand, vastly expansive soundstage that stretched well beyond the boundaries of my room. This amp showed no shortage of reserve power even during the most demanding orchestral crescendos and peaks, playing them with ease, energy and excitement. The dynamics of the Continuum S2 were simply superb. The various sections of the orchestra were accurately placed on the stage, each playing within its own distinct location. Once again, I noticed the vast amount of air and space surrounding the instruments.”

Decware Zen Mystery Amp $5,695 Review

“Regardless of the tracks chosen, subtlety abounds with this amp, and it continually offers little surprises on so many records that I’ve been listening to for years. And listening to new music is equally dreamy. Trent Reznor’s soundtrack for the recent movie Gone Girl is so good it’s scary, constantly reminding me of the tension in the film. Reznor is known for his ability to build a dense and ethereal soundscape—and the ZMA, combined with the GamuT RS5 speakers, envelops me in so much more than what I might call a soundstage with another amplifier. The ZMA creates a hyper-real, three-dimensional sound sphere. While a record like this does not provide the picture of musical accuracy that your favorite Blue Note might, it does have many layers of minute detail—and through a less-capable amplifier, those details just don’t come through in the same dreamy sonic picture that the ZMA paints.”

Moon by Simaudio Evolution 760A Stereo Amplifier Review

” There were subtle differences, though; the 760A’s slightly warmer, fuller sound consistently translated into images and voices drawn with greater depths of tonal color and naturalness. The Simaudio also painted images with a hint more grandeur, giving me somewhat of a front-row vantage on the sound, as opposed to the Classés’ slightly recessed and drier character. Henley’s kick drum proved a perfect example of this — through the Simaudio, it sounded larger and more organic, while the Classés struggled to balance their punchy authority with the same level of scale”

JEFF ROWLAND MODEL 525 REVIEW

http://goo.gl/33ZZHX Read Here

“The 525 sounds bolder, and acoustically more convincing than I remember the older model 102 or model 201’s to sound. The 525 doesn’t have the harmonic richness of the more upscale class A/B amplifiers in the Rowland product palette, but its timbre is very natural and there’s no trace of artifice to be found. While the 525 is very clean and articulate, it does not offer the low level resolution or superb soundstage layering that is possible with the dearer amps in the Jeff Rowland assortment. But then, these improvements come at high cost, as the next amplifier up in the current range carries a 4x price tag, and at that level it is only expected that performance is further elevated.”

NAD C 275BEE Stereo/Mono Amplifier Review

“The transients in this recording are astounding, especially from the bass drum. Poorly designed amps smear those transients, but through the C 275BEE the attacks were as tight and with as great a sense of slam as I can imagine. This may be a function of the amp’s very high damping factor. The highs were reproduced with exceptional detail, and the mids were quite solid. The band was presented with good depth and width.”

ROWLAND CONTINUUM S2 INTEGRATED AMP $9500 REVIEW

http://goo.gl/M0Ndkl Read Here

“Perhaps the most striking statement the Continuum S2 makes pertains to the overall musicality of Class D amplifiers. Just a few years ago, the argument asserted in these very pages was that Class D wasn’t ready for prime time—the primary gripe being that it lacked extension, air, and transparency on top. True enough then, but that argument has been firmly laid to rest by a component like the Continuum S2. ”

” I was able to appreciate the nuances of each instrument more easily than I’m accustomed to. Plucks of each string of Glenn Frey’s acoustic guitar were conveyed with truthful singularity, possessing precise leading-edge definition without sounding analytical. Even more alluring was the tightrope the 760A consistently walked between offering snappy transients and focused images while retaining the natural golden hue of the acoustic’s strings.”

“That’s quite the trick. We obtain 15—almost 17 watts—from a single-ended KT88 in class A1 but with a triode transfer function due to how the series-parallel connected six amplifiers operate. The taps in our transformers are different, the way they connect to the tubes is different. There is a screen tap which used to be called ultralinear and another winding for the cathode for a type of local feedback. A Stockham paper from the 50s showed how a triode can be modeled as a pentode with feedback by removing the grids. When you take the grids out of a pentode, you get inherent feedback between plate and cathode.”

“Moving through the gaggle of great speakers we currently have here from Dali, Dynaudio, GamuT, Eggleston and a few others, the XA160.8s have no limitations. To get them to (softly) clip requires ear shattering volume, or perhaps a pair of horribly inefficient speakers. In that case, there are always the XA200.8s and the Xs amplifiers.”

“This was, most likely, the first presentation of Audio Tekne products in Poland despite the fact that this is one of the highly appreciated Japanese audio brands. Looking at their devices most people think about the golden age of tube devices – simple, though elegant designs, without any fancy elements, where form serves purpose and not the other way around. ”
