“Since the IDA-16 plays DSD256 files, I had to try the unit with one of them. So I cued up the only DSD256 I had available, Howard Hanson/An American Romantic, from High Definition Tape Transfers (highdeftapetransfers.com). On the first selection, “Nymphs And Satyr Ballet Suite,” performed by the Rochester Chamber Orchestra with David Fetler conducting, the recording of this attractive tonal music showed very well developed instrumental harmonics and punchy dynamics. If the notion of 20th century American music sounds scary, fear not; this music is well-crafted and (to my ears) actually pretty.”

“After quite a cross-section of musical genres, the Triode TRV-88SER is a real musical performer. If there were a weakness it may be in the upper frequency ranges, lacking a little detail and ‘sparkle’ for want of a better word, and only if I was being very critical. It more than makes up for this however with its performance across the whole frequency spectrum, particularly the tonality, presence and control of the lower frequency region.”

” The V12 does a truly special job with voices, particularly female voices. There is a focus to vocals, with a secure wholeness that is superb. The envelope of air around vocals is very convincing, bringing to mind the real thing. I noted an absence of stray phase distortion that yields ambiance where ambiance does not exist.”
