“You don’t focus on the ephemera here. You aren’t listening for the detail or defining the soundstage. You are listening to music, as a complete and contiguous whole. It’s like it manages to combine the grace of a good valve amp with the power of good solid state.”

” On both digital and vinyl I was impressed by the preamp and amp’s silky midrange and the wealth of detail they produced. Mated together, they definitely supply a sound that lands firmly on the tube side of the sonic spectrum. The preamp is a balanced hybrid design that takes several minutes to warm up?

Krell Announces Digital Vanguard Integrated Amplifier with HDMI, Bluetooth, and Streaming Services

“The Digital Vanguard Integrated Amplifier is a powerhouse featuring a Class A preamplifier and 200 watt stereo amplifier. The Vanguard’s amplifier incorporates a massive power supply with a 750 VA toroidal transformer and 80,000 microfarads of storage capacitance. The tremendous amount of energy on tap allows the Vanguard to deliver 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms, doubling to 400 watts at 4 ohms. This is far more power than most other integrated amplifiers can deliver. Two quiet, thermostatically controlled fans permit the use of a surprisingly compact chassis, especially considering how much power the Vanguard produces.”

Peachtree Audio nova220SE Integrated Amplifier Review

” Although DACs are definitely a matter of taste, I’d offer that, unless you have a very good standalone DAC already, you may find you don’t need a better one than what’s included in the 220SE. And, as a welcome option, Peachtree offers the BT1 Bluetooth Wireless DAC. For those of us who see it would be handy to occasionally play music from our phone, tablet or computer (without cables), be assured that the BT1 works flawlessly and sounds very nice, indeed. Not nearly as good as the 220SE’s USB DAC, of course, but certainly fine and dandy for times when the absolute finest is not required.”

Let’s face it, channel exclusivity of power supplies can be built into a stereo chassis. But because reality bites, there’ll be practical constraints on size, weight and heat dissipation. Size and weight don’t just inform the consumer side about what’s manageable. It affects manufacturing and shipping too. With class A bias throwing off 90% of generated power as heat; and transformers getting bigger and heavier as power ratings escalate; what’s doable in a stereo chassis does eventual hit limits of plain common sense.”

” The NuPrime range also contains a headphone amp/DAC in the DAC-10H (above top, $1,795), but this one has balanced as well as quarter inch outputs that can be used simultaneously. It has five digital and two analogue inputs and comes in a preamp version dubbed DAC-10 (above below) without the headphone outputs, both have balanced and single ended outputs. Spec is very high with support for 32-bit/384kHz PCM and native DSD up to DSD256 via the asynchronous USB input. The NuPrime ST-10 (below) is a class D power amplifier rated at 150 Watts (8 Ohms) with claimed 85% efficiency and “near-reference” class sound for $1,595.

” The main amplifier section is built around an OEM version of the popular Hypex switching module driving MOSFET output devices. As an aside, the Hypex switching units are often found on much more expensive class D amplifiers, including my reference Merrill Thor monoblocks, which clock in at $4800 retail”

Creek Audio Evolution 50A review

” That low-end deficiency puts the 50A’s tonality a little on the lean side, so taking a little care with system matching would be sensible. You’ll hardly notice the shortcoming paired with standmounters, but those fond of floorstanders should choose rich, sweet-sounding towers (say, the Q Acoustic Concept 40s) to flesh out the sound ”
