BURSON AUDIO CONDUCTOR VIRTUOSO 2+ HEADPHONE DAC PREAMP REVIEW
October 21, 2018 Comments Off on BURSON AUDIO CONDUCTOR VIRTUOSO 2+ HEADPHONE DAC PREAMP REVIEW
‘There’s so much to like here; from the five-year warranty to the way the detents on the volume control feel under your hand. This is a very well realised headphone amplifier/DAC that shows just how professional Burson Audio has become, and the last round showed the company wasn’t exactly goofing around. The Conductor V2+ is beautifully made, can drive practically everything, sounds powerful and full of bass while staying lithe and detailed, and the only real fault I can find is those damn blue volume settings. The original was a real star; this one’s a supernova! ”

VINCENT AUDIO KHV-1 HYBRID HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER REVIEW
October 14, 2018 Comments Off on VINCENT AUDIO KHV-1 HYBRID HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER REVIEW
“With only the Cayin HA-1A as a direct competitor, I can’t find any reason why you would choose it over the Vincent. It looks and feels incredible, it’s designed and developed in Germany (and built in China), and it can drive almost anything you throw at it.
The 2014 revision adds more inputs, which enables the unit to be more than just a headphone amplifier. It’s quite simply a solid all-rounder that can be integrated into any Hi-Fi setup as an excellent pre-amp.

AURIS AUDIO HA-2SE REVIEW
October 10, 2018 Comments Off on AURIS AUDIO HA-2SE REVIEW
“At 1W output and including a resistance selector the Auris HA-2SE actually is quite a versatile tube amp. However, it is by no means the most powerful amp nor the most efficient desktop amp. That’s not a bad thing. This is, after all, a headphone amp and not one classed as being ideal for very sensitive monitors.
It also has no balanced setup so those looking for additional power I would advise checking out their mid-tier Nirvana which is a full-balanced design and rated at 6.5W. Solid state amps such as the Cayin iHA-6 and Xi Audio’s Formula S are more suitable for very demanding headphones such as the Hifiman HE6 and the Abyss AB-1266 which do need a bit more headroom.”

Monoprice Monolith Liquid Platinum Headphone Amplifier World Premiere $699 Review
October 8, 2018 Comments Off on Monoprice Monolith Liquid Platinum Headphone Amplifier World Premiere $699 Review
“Attack speed is about average, not quite delivering the brilliant transient snap of the Blue Note Award-winning HeadAmp Gilmore Lite Mk2. The focus of the Liquid Platinum seems more tuned to deliver richness rather than speed. The body and decay of the notes are both quite lovely, with a trail of sonic information lingering behind every note detailing everything from the dimensions of the recording space down to the singer’s choice of herbal tea and Chapstick. The soundscape and imaging are excellent. The forwardness of the midrange does seem to make vocals a bit closer to you, relative to a flatter presentation like that of the HeadAmp Gilmore Lite Mk2. As a result, there is a certain intensity to the Monolith Liquid Platinum that I really like. It feels more personal. It pairs perfectly with that sultry midrange and intimate signature to deliver a really cohesive experience.”
Sony’s Aspirational Audio Player $8,000
October 4, 2018 Comments Off on Sony’s Aspirational Audio Player $8,000
“Perhaps Sony has realized that the manufacture of low-cost, commodity audio products is a game they don’t want to play. And Sony was always known for delivering products that were often a cut above everyone else’s. Now, with products like the DMP-Z1, Sony seems to be testing the waters of very high-end audio. A small market, perhaps, but a profitable one. I wish them well. If you want more info on the DMP-Z1, check out Sony’s web page.
And does a $8,000 music player incite rage in you, or does it inspire appreciation? Sony would love to find out, especially if your opinion is positive, and it goes viral.

AURIS AUDIO NIRVANA HEAD PHONE AMP REVIEW
September 29, 2018 Comments Off on AURIS AUDIO NIRVANA HEAD PHONE AMP REVIEW
“The Auris Audio Nirvana is one of those amps that performs great with every single headphone you throw at it. It seems to bring out the best of every headphone and especially the balanced output for me is really special.
As said, the Auris Nirvana is the perfect mix of Auris’ previous models and it combines the best of both amps to bring you to Nirvana, a place of perfect peace and happiness. Apart from the fact that it’s maybe too powerful there absolutely isn’t a single thing I don’t like about the amplifier. It again looks stunning and the separate power supply gives it an extra classy look. It sounds like you’re in heaven with a dynamic, wide and very well layered sound with a good amount of warmth and tube smoothness. The Nirvana gets sound (and looks) just right and it simply is impossible not to like.”
