Rhapsodio Saturn Review

“Whilst far from being my cup of tea, I can see why the Saturn could be popular with some. The build quality is excellent; they look fantastic and offer a really fun sound. The bass is full and somewhat over-the-top during certain tracks, but this is without completely ruining the midrange. Only a small band in the lower midrange is really affected, the rest is well detailed and not overly recessed. The highs are energetic but never harsh; these are just a fun and enjoyable listen.”

INEARZ NIRVANA REVIEW
March 9, 2018 Comments Off on INEARZ NIRVANA REVIEW
“The separation and stereo imaging is very strong but the parts of the spectrum are not extremely separated from each other. And that, I think, is the very thing that generates an integrated, cohesive sound. Sound stage on the other hand is also very good in terms of depth. It’s not very wide but since the mids are not much in your face, it doesn’t give you a congested staging. Actually the staging also feels like the Spiral SE-5 Ref.

EarSonics S-EM9 In-Ear Monitors $1799 Review
March 5, 2018 Comments Off on EarSonics S-EM9 In-Ear Monitors $1799 Review
“When compared with the similarly-priced Jerry Harvey Roxanne CIEM ($1795) the S-EM9 delivered more extended, detailed bass and sub-bass. After adjusting the Roxanne’s bass controls for a richer mix, the Roxanne did generate more midbass than the S-EM9 but not more low bass. The Roxannes were slightly more comfortable (they are a custom fit, after all), but both IEMs were comfy enough for multi-hour listening sessions. While both in-ears imaged quite well, the S-EM9 had slightly more specific image placement with greater sense of three-dimensionality.”

Audeze LCDi4 In-Ear Headphones $2,495 Review
March 2, 2018 Comments Off on Audeze LCDi4 In-Ear Headphones $2,495 Review
“The iSine 10 and 20 were game changers in 2016, and unlike any other in-ears I’ve reviewed—so how could the LCDi4s top them? The compar- isons were finished in short order: The iSine 10/20s are still astonishing, but the LCDi4s are an alto- gether more refined, transparent device, even when plugged into something as mundane as my iPhone 6S’s 3.5mm headphone jack. When I returned to the iSine 20s after spending time with the i4, the 20s sounded cloudy and veiled. Still, the LCDi4s won’t play super loud with smartphones, even with the latest version of Audeze’s Cipher cable that features a built-in digital converter for use with the iPhone’s Lightning connector. But it does take the LCDi4’s sound quality to the next level with even better bass extension/definition, transparency, and treble purity versus the 3.5mm plug connection.”

Sennheiser IE800 S $1,000 Review
March 1, 2018 Comments Off on Sennheiser IE800 S $1,000 Review
“The Sennheiser IE800 has been one of my long term reference in-ear headphones, and the IE800 S ups the ante. That said, the IE800 stood the test of time, and I’m expecting the IE800 S will still sound great five years down the road, in 2023.”

Rose Hybrid 7 MKII Review
February 26, 2018 Comments Off on Rose Hybrid 7 MKII Review
“Bass is slow and smooth with rather rounded notes. It presents through sub-bass impact and tones over delicately articulated notes. As a result, the 7 isn’t overly detailed nor does it suit faster genres of music. Still, accuracy clearly was never Rose’s intention and the earphones deliver a fun bass response with excellent extension. Combined with hearty sub-bass emphasis, the earphones produce clear rumble and impressively physical slam. Mid-bass is cleaner by comparison with declining emphasis into the upper-bass frequencies. As it still has enhanced presence, notes do sound enlarged and bloated, not aided by the 7’s slower decay that compromises separation.”

MrSpeakers Aeon closed-back headphones $800 Review
February 25, 2018 Comments Off on MrSpeakers Aeon closed-back headphones $800 Review
“I’ve been playing a lot of Peter Gabriel the past few weeks before having to commit these words to print. “Solsbury Hill” from the Special Edition of his 2011 album, New Blood (16/44.1 ALAC file ripped from CD, Real World 00038), has become a favorite, Gabriel’s husky baritone set against the arrangement for piano and orchestra. The Æons slightly emphasized the “blat” of the brass instruments, the space around the instruments, and the phlegmy edge to the voice; in general, voices sounded more natural through the LCD-Xes, with more weight to the lows but less top-octave air. I’ll stick with the Audezes, but the MrSpeakers Æons, too, are headphones I could live with.

NOBLE AUDIO DJANGO $1,000 REVIEW
February 20, 2018 Comments Off on NOBLE AUDIO DJANGO $1,000 REVIEW
“Mids on the Django deliver a warm and full-bodied, almost euphoric, instrumental timbre with an even harmonic bias. Instrumental positioning is just slightly behind vocals but they are in no way brittle or thin sounding.”
