ULTIMATE EARS RM $1000 REVIEW

“Unlike cookie-cutter in-ear monitors, the UE RM lock into place with a quick twist before you even curl back the cable, and from that point, they aren’t going anywhere. I’ve been able to keep the earpieces in for 2-3 hours or more, with only traces of discomfort. In fact, my only real complaint here is the infernal fight against earwax, which can get a little itchy, and also makes it pretty hard to keep that showroom shine on the eartip”

Fidue A83 $350 Review

” The mids fair well with all vocals, and never sound offensive. I would say they sit just behind the lows in presentation, but do not sound recessed or veiled. I cannot detect any sibilance in the upper mids, and they are just very enjoyable, with no major dips or peaks. Guitars have grunt, vocals are clean and detailed, the mids really don’t do anything wrong. I really enjoy listening to vocals on these, as they have a very clear presentation, they don’t really add any flavour to the mids, they present them as they should be.”

“The slight reflection of the space draws out the most delicate nuances: You can tell by the forgiving wooden timbre of the guitar and the deadened strings of the banjo that the instruments are a bit old and worn — you hear slight mistakes in the counter melody guitar, like the occasional buzz from a missed fret. ”

The sound through Layla was huge. Pure and simple. It was much bigger in dynamic scope and emotive impact than I could have ever imagined before hearing it. Listening to Our Love via Layla felt like… during that track I made a note in my iPhone”

DUNU DN-2000 Review

February 1, 2015 Comments Off on DUNU DN-2000 Review

” In terms of sound quality, the DUNU DN-2000 is a successful hybrid design. It manages to leverage the bass of the dynamic driver without having it overwhelm the mids and highs, maintains pretty good coherency, and extracts the expected clarity and detail from the balanced armatures without losing note thickness. In its price range, it is one of the IEMs to beat for sheer performance.”

“The RTI1’s metal exterior is handsome if understated. It’s glintier than it is blingy. Its matte surface staves off all but the most greasy of finger prints. It is both light, and sound. As you can imagine, it is cool to the touch. Count it a blessing in the summer. In the winter, well, let’s just say this: as long as you’re not in Canada or Russia, you should be fine.”

How Balanced Armature Receivers/Drivers Work

“Balanced armature receivers in today’s IEMs and hearing aids are quite a bit different than in headphones of old. Conceptually, the biggest difference is that current BA drivers don’t have the “see-saw” pivoting armature like that shown in the diagram above. Todays drivers use an armature that acts mechanically like a diving board. Let’s take a look inside a typical BA receiver used in today’s IEMs and hearing aids”

“Lush and full, I am always impressed by the lows on FAD’s BA models, they never lack any extension or body considering they use a single BA driver. The lows have incredible detail and articulation, listening to Diana Krall you can hear every pluck of the double bass, and every note decay perfectly.”

Advanced AcousticWerkes W300AR – Review

” Instead of the slamming tight and aggressive V8 bass performance the W300AR bass signature, though relatively dominant, is a bit more languid and slow paced in comparison more in keeping with the Heir Audio 8.0 lusher but heavily decayed bass response”
