“But in terms of build quality, I must respectfully disagree with Scott Hull: The Piano G2 is less Rolls-Royce than Bugatti. I have never seen a pair of loudspeakers crafted with such artisanal care. Yes, they’re expensive. Yes, there are other speakers on the market that offer more in terms of deep-bass extension and utter neutrality for less money. But, as with a Bugatti, what you pay $39,900 for is not the highest sound quality alone. You pay for a bespoke visual and aural experience by way of musical seduction, and Tidal’s Piano G2 has seduced me as has no other speaker.”

“Along with wide frequency response and wide dynamic range, the 705d2s have a cleaner, more natural tonal rendition than their past iteration. Acoustic instruments feel correct and that bastion of audiophilia, the female vocal, is well represented. Whether it’s the quirky delicacy of Aimee Mann or the raw power of Chrissie Hynde (don’t make me go you-know-where) these mighty mini monitors are right at home.

“The Monitor Audio Silver 200 and Revel Performa3 F206 are both excellent speakers for their prices, and it’s unlikely that anyone shopping in the price range of one would consider anything in the range of the other. The Silver 300 would be a more natural competitor for the F206, if not on the basis of price, then at least in the similarities of their sizes and driver configurations. Within its physical limits, the Silver 200 held up well against the Performa3 F206, offering a high degree of transparency, precise imaging, and punchy, well-controlled sound. However, as good as the Monitors were, the Revels are still the best-sounding speakers I’ve had in my listening room. It would have been quite an accomplishment for the Silver 200s to have outperformed them at less than half the price.”

“The imaging and sound staging of the Hestia Titanium is as good as I have heard in my room. It’s vivid and well resolved, yet the smooth mid band and treble provide great contrast to the dead silent background, allowing images to really pop into focus. Not as laid back as the Lansche 4.1, or as forward as the Sonus Faber Lilium, they most resemble the GoldenEar Triton Reference in soundstage perspective. The depth is excellent, and left to right width is limited to how wide the speakers are placed and the quality of the source material. The dipole mid band calls no attention to itself, but would appear to help resolve and untangle densely recorded compositions while adding a nice rendition of air and space when present on the recording. While precise, they were not as laser focused as the more than twice the price Lilium. There is a slight rounding to the outlines which sounds very natural and convincing with the Hestia Titanium. Here the Hestia Titanium and the 55K Lansche have much in common. Both present music in a way that very slightly de-emphasizes outlines in favor of a fleshier, dimensional image. Or perhaps they are simply rendering what the signal is presenting? Either way, this is hardly a criticism and is a quality that I much prefer.”

“The midrange is excellent and presents most vocal cleanly, with a large dose of warmth and richness. The upper bass and midrange is very good in the Triton Seven which presents this range with very high resolution and good dynamics, although micro-dynamics in the upper midrange are not proficient as in the lower frequencies. This makes the upper midrange, just below where the ribbon tweeter takes over, sound relatively anemic and thin compared to the lower midrange. Even so, the sound seems generally correct and linear from upper bass to lower treble. The midrange is of such good quality that it seemed that Bonnie Raitt visited my listening room, virtually, on “Cool Clear Water” from her 1994 Longing In Their Hearts CD. Also on that cut is an easy to follow bass line, with a very dynamic drum set positioned perfectly toward the rear of the soundstage.”
