Dynaudio Focus 600 XD Loudspeaker Review
March 12, 2017 Comments Off on Dynaudio Focus 600 XD Loudspeaker Review
“The Dynaudio 600 XD sound smooth to my ears no matter where I sit on my 3 seat couch. The frequency response measurements correlate very well with what I am hearing. The transient response and stereo phantom image is excellent and correlates well with a time coherent loudspeaker. Transparent keeps coming to my mind. At no time did I hear any noise, hum or distortion from the speakers.”

Totem Acoustic Sky Loudspeaker REVIEW

“Classical music also sounded larger than life if not quite as refined. Daniel Barenboim’s 5 CD set of Schubert Sonatas is a fabulous new collection. When the speakers were placed near the back wall, the sound was infused with some grain. Moving the speakers out into the room cleaned things up nicely. Barenboim’s exquisite touch was heard readily. And when macro dynamics were demanded such as the opening movement of Bruckner’s mighty Ninth Symphony, the power handling of the woofer’s 75 mm voice coil was exceptional. A mighty sound from such a small enclosure. Remarkable.”

MAGICO S1 MK II LOUDSPEAKER $16,500 Review
March 9, 2017 Comments Off on MAGICO S1 MK II LOUDSPEAKER $16,500 Review
” Needless to say, Magico’s S1 Mk II isn’t a perfect loudspeaker. While the S1 Mk II is undeniably a full-range speaker, it’s still a relatively small one, and if your room is big, and your taste runs to large-scale music, and you like to listen to that music at life-like levels, you’re going to be disappointed. More existentially, we all know that there is no such thing as a “perfect loudspeaker.” That transducer would have to produce sound that, objectively and subjectively, was indistinguishable from the real thing—and that ain’t happening, at least in my lifetime.”

Aerial Acoustics 5T loudspeaker $3795 Review
March 8, 2017 Comments Off on Aerial Acoustics 5T loudspeaker $3795 Review
“The 5T lives up to Aerial Acoustics’ reputation for producing fine-sounding, well-balanced loudspeakers. Though the price increase over its predecessor is a little alarming, the new speaker’s fit and finish are superior to the original’s more utilitarian appearance. When used within their dynamic envelope—these are not speakers for parties or dancing—the Aerial 5Ts will excel at painting stable, musically convincing sonic pictures between and behind them.

SONUS FABER PRINCIPIA 3 BOOKSHELF SPEAKERS $699 REVIEW
March 7, 2017 Comments Off on SONUS FABER PRINCIPIA 3 BOOKSHELF SPEAKERS $699 REVIEW
“Considering their price point of $699 per pair, the Sonus faber Principia 3s do an awful lot of things right. Key attributes include excellent bass response and accuracy, musical midrange, clean treble, and very good dynamics. Top that off with the solid build quality and great aesthetics Sonus faber is known for and you have a very impressive overall package. Even the slightly-elevated presence region could be considered a benefit to listeners who value retrieval of detail over a more musical approach”

Alta Audio Titanium Hestia Loudspeaker $32,000 Review
March 3, 2017 Comments Off on Alta Audio Titanium Hestia Loudspeaker $32,000 Review
“The Titaniums are a majestic version of the Celesta. For 30 years I have happily lived in an apartment in New York City, and resisted over the years every attempt by friends, wife and family to encourage me even to think about moving into the suburbs so as to live in a house with all the more space and rooms it can provide, and to buy/drive a car (necessary then) to make it all work out.”

Wilson Audio Alexx Loudspeakers $109,000 Review
March 2, 2017 Comments Off on Wilson Audio Alexx Loudspeakers $109,000 Review
“At $109k a pair, you’d most certainly expect any speaker to reproduce all these attributes and then some; and rightfully so. That’s a whole lot of dough. Cough, rasp, cough. To the initiated—i.e. those who already drink from HiFi’s Kool Aid—the speaker’s price point has today become quasi accepted. To the uninitiated, the price point seems absurdly ludicrous. That is of course, until they are educated on the “Why” question. No more could your average weekend warrior speaker “guy” create a transducer like Alexx than violently shaking the pieces of a Daytona hoping for the final product to magically materialize in your mystical box of trickery. A quick review of the facts, a visit to the Wilson factory, would reveal the resoluteness and sanity of Alexx’s asking price.”
