‘”The cabinet itself is relatively sturdy, with a ¾” thick front baffle and ½” thick sidewalls. The interior chamber paneling does serve very effective double-duty as bracing to reduce cabinet resonance. The cabinet is generously stuffed with Dacron in order to damp resonances as well. The speaker terminals are a pair of sturdy binding posts. The cabinets do not come with feet attached, but Monoprice has included small rubber dimple ‘stickers’ that can be attached and used as feet. Overall, the design looks to be solid, with a reassuring attention to detail.”

Wilson Audio Alexx Loudspeakers $109,000 Review

February 23, 2017 Comments Off on Wilson Audio Alexx Loudspeakers $109,000 Review

“At $109k a pair, you’d most certainly expect any speaker to reproduce all these attributes and then some; and rightfully so. That’s a whole lot of dough. Cough, rasp, cough. To the initiated—i.e. those who already drink from HiFi’s Kool Aid—the speaker’s price point has today become quasi accepted. To the uninitiated, the price point seems absurdly ludicrous. That is of course, until they are educated on the “Why” question. No more could your average weekend warrior speaker “guy” create a transducer like Alexx than violently shaking the pieces of a Daytona hoping for the final product to magically materialize in your mystical box of trickery. A quick review of the facts, a visit to the Wilson factory, would reveal the resoluteness and sanity of Alexx’s asking price. ”

AUDIOVECTOR QR3 FLOORSTANDING LOUDSPEAKER REVIEW

February 23, 2017 Comments Off on AUDIOVECTOR QR3 FLOORSTANDING LOUDSPEAKER REVIEW

” The Audiovector QR3 is one of those loudspeakers that makes you realise just how far good audio has come in the last few years. The performance these speakers deliver was hard to find at anything like the price a few years ago (thanks to that AMT tweeter) and its musically engaging overall performance is every bit as attractive to newcomers (who might have never owned anything apart from iTunes recordings) and long-standing audiophiles (who have a collection of high-res downloads) alike. Unless you want a pair of loudspeakers that can double up as a PA system, the QR3 might just be all you need and comes strongly recommended”

Focal Sopra N°2 Loudspeaker Review

“I think think a few words from Focal about the trickle down technology would be appropriate with emphasis on the famous Beryllium tweeter. Midrange is always toughest to engineer correctly but Focal’s justly famous tweeter deserves a highlight (and NIC and TMD) for good measure. ”

KEF Reference 1 – $8,000 REVIEW

“I spent some quality time comparing the Reference 1 with Bower & Wilkins’ flagship monitor, the 805 D3. The Reference 1 is a three-way speaker, the 805 D3 is a two-way, so it didn’t reach as deep into the bass on my Lee “Scratch” Perry dub reggae CDs. The Reference 1’s low end outpaces the 805 D3’s, but the 805 D3 is a higher-resolution, more transparent design, so I could more clearly pick out individual voices in choral recordings. The Reference 1s projected a bigger, yet precisely focused stereo soundstage. As I continued to listen, I came to feel both speakers were highly accomplished performers with all music genres.”

MartinLogan Expression ESL 13A Floorstanding Speaker Reviewed

Having listened to several generations of ESL speakers over the past 15 to 20 years, I found the new Expression ESL 13A speakers to be a significant step forward. The greatly improved bass technology makes positioning the speakers without sacrificing bass performance much easier to do, and the improved panels somehow manage to squeeze out even more details from the music than prior iterations–the combination of which is a detailed and transparent speaker that gets out of the way of your music.”

Coincident Dynamite Floorstanding Speaker $2999 Review

” Once again I pushed aside the listening chair and mounted my Radio Shack SPL meter on my tripod, right between where my ears were positioned, slightly below the level of the tweeters. The measurements validated some important perceptions I have of the Dynamite. First, a peak in the upper bass region is a room related peak that appears in all my speaker measurements. The bass is strong, as I heard, but also goes down to 32 Hz before falling off significantly. Others have had similar results and the website now reflects these findings. ”
