” I certainly don’t mean to imply that the Berning monoblocks are the only amplifiers that will bring the APs fully to life with all stripes of music. I’m sure that there are dozens of others that will do so—and they won’t necessarily cost $30k (though such an expenditure doesn’t necessarily strike me as out of line when you’ve spent $45,995 for speakers). You just need to be aware that the excellent amps you already own may not be right for the Cardeas 30 LJEs. These loudspeakers are not the most benign load in the world and, more importantly, they are exceptionally revealing of what comes before them in the audio chain. They will not suffer fools, or even some very fine components that might shine in another setting.”

MAGICO S7 $58,000 – REVIEW

“The S7’s accuracy in transient speed and overall detail not only makes the deep bass more musically realistic; it also significantly reduces room excitation and the masking of detail in the upper bass and midrange. These advantages of superior bass performance come through clearly on high-quality cello and bass viol recordings.”

GAMUT SUPERIOR RS3I $19,990 REVIEW

November 21, 2016 Comments Off on GAMUT SUPERIOR RS3I $19,990 REVIEW

“Gamut asserts that internal cabinet damping materials should be kept to an absolute minimum (or eliminated altogether in the case of Crystal Cable’s Arabesque speakers) because those materials also tend to dampen the overall presentation, thereby robbing music playback of immediacy and dynamic vibrancy. In fact, this approach is a key factor in the RS3i’s design—the one that probably most accounts for its dynamic liveliness. All but a few dynamic, cone ’n’ dome speakers have several sheets or patches of internal cabinet damping materials such as fiberglass, foam, wool, felt, or cotton batting inside their cabinets to help absorb the backwaves of the drivers.”

Wharfedale Diamond A2 Review

“We wish the level of refinement and detail in the midrange would also extend to the treble though.Slight hardness taints the edges of the perpetual cymbal tapping – something that removing the tweeter’s grille emphasises – and seems more monotonal than it ought.”

MartinLogan Neolith $79,995 Review

November 15, 2016 Comments Off on MartinLogan Neolith $79,995 Review

“The MartinLogan website says the Neolith is “not for the faint of heart.” At $79,995/pair, they are not for the faint of wallet either. And at 385 pounds each, unboxed, you won’t be able to unpack these beauties if you are faint of bicep. The world’s finest electronics will take you to a new solar system of sound, yet the ease with which these speakers mate to nearly any amplifier make these our choice for this year’s Speaker of the Year. Watch for more gushing in issue 80.”

” The high-frequency extension was excellent–smooth, with no particular frequencies that jumped out or receded into murkiness. When I ran mono sine-wave frequency sweeps via the AudioTest app, the signal stayed dead center with no shifts to either side. This means that the tweeters were closely matched with no noticeable deviations within their frequency range.”

Monitor Audio Platinum PL300 II loudspeaker Review

November 13, 2016 Comments Off on Monitor Audio Platinum PL300 II loudspeaker Review

READ HERE

“According to Monitor’s Dean Hartley, one of the design goals for the PL300 II was that it “stay composed” when playing loud music. In evaluating a speaker, I sometimes play music at levels higher than I would play just for enjoyment, and when I did, the PL300 II did indeed ”
