Estelon loudspeaker XB £25,000 Review

July 17, 2016 Comments Off on Estelon loudspeaker XB £25,000 Review

” The XB is the big Estelon loudspeaker for a smaller room. And that means the kind of real-world European and Asian listening spaces that might be used with a system of this kind of price and calibre. Put this system in a larger room and the integration between bass and everything else gets a bit hazy and the resulting sound is thin in the upper bass. In that smaller room, XB becomes beautifully integrated and exhibits a complete lack of overhang. There is still a dryness to the overall sound, a characteristic seemingly common to Accuton-based speakers, but the concept of a completely honest set of electronics driving a pair of inherently musical loudspeakers works and works well.”

ProAc D48R Speakers $10,900 Review

July 16, 2016 Comments Off on ProAc D48R Speakers $10,900 Review

” Like a few other great speakers we’ve auditioned in the $10k–$20k range in the last year, the ProAc D48R in a moderately sized room delivers so much of what you’d expect from a $40k–$60k pair of speakers, there’s hardly a reason to spend more, unless you just have to play music in a massive room at headbanging levels. For all but the most well-heeled audio enthusiast, these will provide a fantastic upgrade from someone currently listening to speakers in the $3k–$5k range and will prove an excellent anchor for a system in the $20k–$80k range. Even when we paired the D48Rs with considerably more expensive electronics, they deliver a command performance.”

Focal Sopra No.1 Review

July 15, 2016 Comments Off on Focal Sopra No.1 Review

” The Beryllium tweeter, which on previous Focal models has sounded a bit too lively for my liking, is crystal clear. The mid-range, which Focal has worked so hard on, is like sonic honey oozing into your ears. A listen through Gregory Alan Isakov’s The Weatherman was utterly mesmerising, with that vocal reproduced with such resounding clarity that he could’ve been in the room”

AvantGarde Uno G2 Review

July 12, 2016 Comments Off on AvantGarde Uno G2 Review

” This is likely also something induced by the tube amplifiers with which I drive the AvantGardes, but the combination really manages to inject a “magical” quality into the midrange, and this is in spite of the aforementioned peakyness and my reservations with respect to vocal delivery. Especially with piano and keyboards, the sounds are so free-flowing and room-filling, so natural and convincing and so very emotionally appealing that it is hard to switch back to my own speakers.”

KEF Blade Two Loudspeakers Review

July 10, 2016 Comments Off on KEF Blade Two Loudspeakers Review

“Some may see the Blade Two’s very unusual shape as being a statement more of style than of sound quality. While it’s true that the Blade received high praise for its beautiful appearance when it was released in 2011, and the Two received similar accolades on its release three years later, there’s a reason Doug Schneider said it was as exciting to listen to as to look at: Its sound quality is the equal of its appearance, which makes it an easy choice for our list of Recommended Reference Components.”

Akoustic Arts A Directional Speaker

July 7, 2016 Comments Off on Akoustic Arts A Directional Speaker

Read Here

“The Akoustic Arts “A” is one of the more unusual-looking speakers you will encounter, with its honeycomb of mini transducers (200 in all). But looks aren’t the only thing unusual about this speaker. Rather than spray sound in every direction like a conventional speaker, the A projects sound in a focused beam. As the Paris-based company likes to say, it’s “the speaker that only you can hear.” And it appears to be off and running. By mid-April, Akoustic Arts had raised more than $200,000, exceeding its Indiegogo funding goal by 662 percent in less than a month. We spoke with founder and CEO Ilan Kaddouch to learn more.”

Magico S1 Mk.II Loudspeakers $7700 Review

July 4, 2016 Comments Off on Magico S1 Mk.II Loudspeakers $7700 Review

Read Here

” Up to this point, Vivid Audio’s V1.5 floorstander ($7700/pair), with its 1” catenary aluminum tweeter and 6.2” aluminum midrange-woofer, had been the best two-way speaker I’d heard. Its avant-garde appearance leaves its visual attractiveness up for debate, but I thought it was a sonic masterpiece. I felt the Vivid’s defining characteristic was its speed. From the lower midrange up past 20kHz, the ported V1.5 sounded obscenely fast and light on its feet. As with Magico’s S1 Mk.II, high levels of transparency and resolution were present and accounted for, but the way the Vivid achieved them was a bit different from the Magico’s. Indeed, while neither speaker demonstrated even a hint of midrange coloration, I found the S1 to be the more honest speaker. The V1.5 sounded consistently fast, which I attribute to a dash of upper-midrange sparkle. While I don’t necessarily think that a bad thing, the S1 Mk.II just sounded “right.”
