PHYSIKS CARBON MKIV SPEAKERS REVIEW

” The German Physiks Carbon MkIV might be the last speaker I would own at the moment of writing this. It was so beautiful visually and sounded sonically superb. Pairing with 12 inches of woofer, you need real muscle for driving this pair of speakers to unleash its potential. Not saying that lower rated amplifier can’t sing, just that giving it more does get the appreciation in return favorably. And next to note is that, you need to play them loud to appreciate, no point getting a 500w amplifier and playing them at a mosquito volume to expect miracle performances. Most speakers need to play loud generally to sing beautifully.

Wilson Audio Specialties Sabrina loudspeaker $15,900/pair Review

” The soundstage thrown by the Sabrinas was wide and deep, with images on it precisely defined. The deepest soundstage and most precisely defined images I’ve heard from a pair of speakers under review were with Fujitsu Ten’s Eclipse TD712 Mk.2, which I reviewed in January 2007. The spatial definition produced by that single-driver speaker was uncanny—but the Eclipse couldn’t match the Sabrina (or any number of high-quality, multi-driver speakers) in maximum loudness capability and bass extension. Compared to other multi-driver speakers, the Sabrinas’ imaging was excellent. When I played the “Depth of Image” tracks from The Best of Chesky Jazz and More Audiophile Tests, Vol.2 (CD, Chesky JD68), the Sabrina’s reproduction of them was comparable to that of the GoldenEar Triton One—and the GoldenEars did better on this test than any other multi-driver speaker I’ve heard in my listening room.”

Serene Audio Talisman active desktop speakers Review

” With the Serene Talisman, I got snappy micro-dynamics and real Pace, Rhythm, and Timing. The tunefulness of the bass and dynamics of these little wonders were quite amazing, to be honest. It was with vocals that these little speakers distinguished themselves. I listened to Ella, Satchmo, Sarah Jarosz and many others. I also watched TV and YouTube videos. With everything I listened to, the Serene was consistently articulate and alive sounding.”

Bryston Mini A Loudspeaker Review

“The midrange is truthful, honest and just a little lean. If I were to compare to the Brit small boxes that I tested before, the Mini A does not have the same level of midrange density, but do keep in mind that the Mini A is also the cheapest of the lot, costing a few thousand Ringgits less. On the other hand, the Mini A was top notch with dynamics and scale, and is comparable to others that cost much more, it handles demanding recordings excellently and portrays a large soundstage in my room with ease.”

KEF Blade Two Loudspeakers $25,000 Review

“When it came to depth of bass, and power throughout the bass range, the B1D’s two woofers were no match for the Blade Two’s four woofers in a much larger cabinet — the Twos reached down to under 30Hz in my room with tremendous authority, whereas by around 40Hz the B1Ds had fallen off the cliff. The Blade Twos could also play at least a bit louder overall. At unrealistically loud listening levels, I did reach the B1 Decades’ limit: some compression in the highs set in (as I increased the volume, the bass and midrange frequencies were rising in level, but the highs were not); however, with the Blade Twos, I never found a place to stop.”

PRANAFIDELITY FIFTY90 LOUDSPEAKERS $3,950 REVIEW

” The $4k price point for speakers marks a stretch for most people. Any sane person spending this amount of money would reasonably expect superb sonics and great looks – there’s no excuse for anything else at this price, despite the emphasis in this industry for spending multiples more. The major challenge for interested folks is actually hearing high quality speakers prior to purchase. PranaFidelity do not have a lot of dealers but the company will work with you to give you a chance to hear their product, just contact them.”

GamuT RS5i Speakers Review $32,900/pair

April 22, 2016 Comments Off on GamuT RS5i Speakers Review $32,900/pair

” Interestingly, the real strength of the GamuT RS5i speakers is their chameleon like ability to reveal whatever is connected to them, and the nuance of whatever music they are called upon to reproduce. This is a speaker that may not grab you as quickly as one with a more tilted frequency response. The more music you listen to, the more special they become. As with the larger S9, the GamuTs get out of the way, becoming little more than a conduit to the music served up, and that’s the highest compliment I can pay them. I’ve heard a few speakers slightly more dynamic, and only my Quads deliver slightly more coherence and detail, yet they throw a much bigger soundstage in all three dimensions. The RS5i’s are tough to beat in overall performance.”

kronos open baffle loudspeaker Review

“There’s bass and then there’s bass… dipole bass that is. The Kronos system delivered the best bass my listening room has been graced with. Period. Even our Wilson Alexia reference with its deeper bass and one or two other extraordinary review products (the Vivid Audio Giya G3 comes to mind) may have approached the Kronos but not quite equaled it. No matter what I threw at it, be it the dexterity and violence of Brian Bromberg’s acoustic bass playing, the nimbleness and power of Flea or the fireworks of a variety of electronica, the Kronos dispensed profound detail, a wide textural range and slamming attack. What I call bounce, the impression of a solidly rendered and unfettered transient, created a rhythmical experience – cognitively not just a mere hifi reproduction of bass instruments.”

PSB IMAGINE T3 FLOOR-STANDING SPEAKERS REVIEW

April 21, 2016 Comments Off on PSB IMAGINE T3 FLOOR-STANDING SPEAKERS REVIEW

” No difference exists in the design and execution of an audio speaker. Often a speaker is designed before anyone puts a pencil to paper; market sector and price point can be the genesis, not the creative process – unless, someone says the word “flagship”. That designation to a designer is the reward after successfully executing a number of models, meeting budgets and timelines. It’s also the culmination of a learning process, what has worked and what hasn’t.”
