Technics Premium Class SB-C700 loudspeaker Review
December 25, 2015 Comments Off on Technics Premium Class SB-C700 loudspeaker Review
” Whenever audiophiles claim they can’t live with colorations, and that they require accurate or neutral reproduction, I laugh, choke up, and expectorate. I don’t believe anybody when they say this. All that any audiophile or reviewer—myself included—really wants is his or her favorite colorations. We want recordings to sound like we want them to sound. If you think I’m full of it, I dare you to audition these beautiful, well-engineered speakers. Technics’ new Premium Class SB-C700 is not only accurate, transparent, and neutral, it’s an excellent value. Highly recommended.

KEF LS50 monitor speaker REVIEW
December 19, 2015 Comments Off on KEF LS50 monitor speaker REVIEW
” The LS50’s proprietary “Uni-Q” driver combines a ribbed 5.25 inch (130mm) aluminum/magnesium woofer with a 1-inch (25mm) aluminum dome tweeter in its center, the driver sports a die-cast aluminum frame. The tweeter has that nifty looking Tangerine waveguide that uses “radial air channels to produce spherical waves up to the highest frequencies.” The Uni-Q driver shares a design and engineering kinship with the similar looking unit in KEF’s flagship Blade Two speaker. The LS50 speakers’ rear-end hosts an elliptical bass port and heavy-duty binding posts that match the quality feel of the rest of the speaker. There are no provisions for wall mounts or brackets, but this isn’t really the sort of speaker that sounds best hugging a wall. I had them on metal floor stands 3 feet away from the wall.”

Polk Audio T50 Tower Speaker Reviewed

” Here’s how I did the measurements. I measured frequency responses using an Audiomatica Clio FW 10 audio analyzer with the MIC-01 measurement microphone, and the speaker driven with an Outlaw Model 2200 amplifier. I used quasi-anechoic technique to remove the acoustical effects of surrounding objects. The T50 was placed atop a 33-inch (84-cm) stand. The mic was placed at a distance of one meter at tweeter height, and a pile of denim insulation was placed on the ground between the speaker and the mic to help absorb ground reflections and improve accuracy of the measurement at low frequencies”

Avantgarde Acoustic Duo $14,477 – Review
December 15, 2015 Comments Off on Avantgarde Acoustic Duo $14,477 – Review
” The Duos seemed to effortlessly fill the room with hall “sounds”. The ambience and timing of the reflected sounds a hall provides is a good part in the overall musical experience. The 47 Laboratories Gaincard and also the Wavelength Audio Cardinal really mated well with the Duos in this regard as compared to other amplifiers in my humble abode. If there is one thing the Duos will certainly let you know, it is the quality of the equipment it is mated to. This Chesky recording offers a reviewer such as myself a real reference for the low level resolution of a piece of gear while also getting a great dynamic workout. The Duos handled everything extremely well and I was especially pleased with the clarity of the subtle details. Properly sized imaging (not fake pinpoints) and complete rendition of overall soundstaging was left bare for my enjoyment was improved over the Unos. The Duo hornspeakers were more harmonically correct”

Monitor Audio Gold 300 Loudspeakers Review
December 15, 2015 Comments Off on Monitor Audio Gold 300 Loudspeakers Review
” The Gold 300 seemed to breathe a little extra life into the music – which I found appealing and perked up my ears and my attention. Focusing on the bass, I was impressed with the punchiness and heft that I heard, while the treble offered plentiful detail and was well extended with a refined smoothness. Though the soundstage produced was appreciably open, I perceived a subtle warmth in the air surrounding and between the various elements, as though it possessed more consistency.”

Klipsch Palladium P-39F Speaker $20,000 – Review
December 14, 2015 Comments Off on Klipsch Palladium P-39F Speaker $20,000 – Review
” The Klipsch P-39Fs with dual P-312W subs is bass that smacks you in the face, warps walls, massages your scalp, shakes cobwebs off corners and frightens small creatures. This is volcanic tremor, tsunami wave bass. It is ominous, portending of imminent danger. It is live and tangible. When the canons blast, your first instinct is to turn and flee. Great stereo systems do just that. They go beyond the auditory to add tactile and emotional information to the enjoyment of music and movies”

BURMESTER BA31 FLOORSTANDING LOUDSPEAKER REVIEW
December 11, 2015 Comments Off on BURMESTER BA31 FLOORSTANDING LOUDSPEAKER REVIEW
” I like to think of the Burmester BA31 as a Plantagenet king – simultaneously courteous and cultured, and capable of unleashing great power when it’s called for. These are speakers that can play softly in the background, yet let slip the musical dogs of war when needed. And it can be slotted into some difficult rooms with ease thanks to the Ambience system. If this is a part of Dieter’s legacy, it’s something to be proud of, and comes strongly recommended.”

PSB Imagine T3 Loudspeakers Review
December 10, 2015 Comments Off on PSB Imagine T3 Loudspeakers Review
” Sonically, the Triton One and Imagine T3 are similar through the midrange and highs. Like the T3, the One’s midrange is neutral and mellow, and its highs are exquisite and refined. Still, I give the nod to the T3 — in my system, it sounded even smoother through the mids than the One, and its highs didn’t compress at high volumes, as the Triton One’s did when I cranked up the music.”
