VON SCHWEIKERT AUDIO VR-55 AKTIVE LOUDSPEAKER $60,000 – REVIEW
December 9, 2015 Comments Off on VON SCHWEIKERT AUDIO VR-55 AKTIVE LOUDSPEAKER $60,000 – REVIEW
“With complex passages like the opening from Prokofiev’s Scythian Suite, or in the re-creation of the delicacies of massed strings, the speaker’s ability to unravel dense and often complex layers of sounds is exceptional. It presents those layers without the slightest hint of congestion or indistinctness and with an ease bordering on effortlessness, all the while rendering such passages with indisputable tonal accuracy and texture.”

AAD 7001i Monitor Loudspeaker $12,500 – Review
December 9, 2015 Comments Off on AAD 7001i Monitor Loudspeaker $12,500 – Review
” In my small basement studio, I configured the AADs on my Apollo speaker stands at the ends of my Trident analog console, the 7001is were a wonderful mixing or editing tool with the Trident mixer or the Macintosh computer DAW playback monitoring (digital audio workstation). The midbass got a little bit emphasized when placing the speakers too close to the wall, but moving them out to about a foot cured that.”

Monitor Audio Gold 50 $1,795 Review
December 8, 2015 Comments Off on Monitor Audio Gold 50 $1,795 Review
” The G50s very much follow in their predecessors’ footprint with a sonic character that’s clean, detailed, open and precise. While we don’t have the GX50s to hand, from memory, the G50s sound livelier and a little clearer too. But even so, they aren’t the last word in excitement.”

SONUS FABER CHAMELEON B STANDMOUNT LOUDSPEAKER – REVIEW
December 6, 2015 Comments Off on SONUS FABER CHAMELEON B STANDMOUNT LOUDSPEAKER – REVIEW
” It’s very clear, very quickly, that you are in the presence of good quality audiophile fare when you sit between the Chameleon B. The soundstaging in particular is open and expressive, with excellent width and depth, and even some height. The one thing small standmount speakers like the Sonus faber do exceptionally well, is they act like an effective point source. Play ‘Mi Buenos Aires Querido’ from the album of the same name by Daniel Barenboim, Rodolfo Mederos, and Héctor Console [Teldec], and you get the sense of a classically inspired Tango trio physically occupying your own room. Coupled with an overarching sense of refinement, and you have the sort of insightful and deeply enjoyable presentation you get from the best high-end audio. But with one reservation: bass.”

Emerald Physics 4.7 Loudspeakers Review
December 1, 2015 Comments Off on Emerald Physics 4.7 Loudspeakers Review
” Apparently, soundstage height is not as simple as how tall the speakers are. Remember Silly Putty? You could flatten it and press it on a newspaper picture to copy the picture. The fun part was to pull the edges and stretch the image, making it elongated and skewed. This is what the Magnepans seem to do: stretch the image. The EP4.7 sonic image is as tall when the recording includes it, but is entirely better focused and more correct. Singers do not appear as a point in space: the EP4.7 is too competent to make the mistake of presenting performers without size and dimensions. Voices are presented as emanating from a human-size head and body, proportional to the recording space.

Dynaudio Excite X14a Review
December 1, 2015 Comments Off on Dynaudio Excite X14a Review
” But the Dynaudios aren’t the last word in attack. They don’t tear along to the track’s upbeat tempo with as much energy and drive as we’d like and there’s more life and soul in the saxophone melody than they let on. This lack of fun factor was a bugbear of the X14s too.:

LINDEMANN/PROAC SYSTEM REVIEW
November 30, 2015 Comments Off on LINDEMANN/PROAC SYSTEM REVIEW
“It’s hard to find flaw for the money. No, the system doesn’t have the home-shuddering dynamics, the extraordinary detail and transparency, the volume headroom, the bass extensions, or the seamless coherence of a system costing at least as much as an S-Class Mercedes. And the headphone amp, though good, is no match for the anointed standalone ones. But the thing is the Lindemann/ProAc combo gets close enough. Some think there is no such thing as a law of diminishing returns in audio, but you could be mistaken for concluding that line in the sand is drawn here.”

Reference 3A Nefes Loudspeakers $9990 Review
November 28, 2015 Comments Off on Reference 3A Nefes Loudspeakers $9990 Review
” It seemed to me that the Nefes had been designed by people whose most important consideration is quality of sound. In discussing the speaker with Tash Goka, I was struck by the care and thought that had evidently gone into every facet of the speaker’s design and construction, right down to the phase plug at the center of each midrange-woofer, which Reference 3A calls its Surreal Acoustic Lens, said to prevent the formation of air vortices and turbulence at the deep center of the cone.”

Sonus faber Chameleon B speakers review
November 28, 2015 Comments Off on Sonus faber Chameleon B speakers review
” I’ve tried Sonus faber Chameleon speakers with few different setups. From Crayon Audio mighty CIA integrated amplifier, explodingly fast and potent Analog Domain Isis integrated, Thrax Audio Heros mono blocks connected via one of the kind Robert Koda K-10 preamplifier and fronted via Aries Cerat Kassandra 2 and TOTALDAC D-1 Dual DACs. ”
