“Interestingly, the new speaker’s crossover is even quieter in terms of background noise or hash — as much as this can be a difficult concept to describe and to grasp unless actually experienced. Sasha Series-2 expresses low level transient information and minutiae succinctly, elevating the sense of being present at a ‘real’ performance. This quality also allows vocals to sound clear and natural with extraordinary articulation. You won’t miss a word even from, say, Rickie Lee Jones’ often-slurred incantations.”

When I listen to speakers or for that matter any piece of equipment there are certain things I listen for, such as: tonality, high end extension, clean tight bass, transition between bass, midrange, treble, and balance from extreme to extreme. Secondly I listen for sound stage depth, height, width..

“We don’t normally mention this because our measurement microphone isn’t rated for accurate performance in the ultrasonic ranges, but it can give an indication of reach. Using a 96kHz pink noise signal, the output turned out to be strong all the way to 36,000Hz. The tweeter truly is a ‘super tweeter’, at least in terms of high frequency extension.”

SVS Prime Satellite 5.1 Speaker System Reviewed

” That ability to start and stop sounds on a dime, which I alluded to with the music selections, shone through in spades with the Daredevil soundtrack. Because the titular character Matt Murdock/Daredevil is blind, his superpowers involve super-hearing. In a number of scenes, when Daredevil focuses his hearing, this is demonstrated by taking a large canvas of sound–like a gritty New York street traffic scene–and fading to hone in on a single sound, like an innocent victim’s cry for help. In the broad scene, the Prime Satellites did a great job of capturing individual elements like cars honking, people shouting, etc., while also keeping the whole scene as a coherent picture. ”

“The clarity of dialogue so drew me in that I sat down to re-watch a film that I honestly had no intention of watching again, much less so soon. By the second chapter, I was ready to proclaim Bryston’s Mini A and AC1 Micro amongst the best speakers of their size that I’ve heard in many a moon. Early in the scene, there’s a moment when a crazed anti-technology activist fires a pistol at Johnny Depp’s character. The night before, that moment hadn’t really resonated with me, sonically speaking. It was a bang. The sort of loud bang I’ve heard any number of speakers deliver perfectly ably in my years of listening. I might have jumped. I honestly don’t remember.”

” This is smoothed over too often on many loudspeakers. It’s sweet and smooth but not live. Here’s a good example of mini dynamics. The close mic’d acoustic guitars had nice bite when strummed and you can perceive the decay of the strings giving great detail from good attack and then you hear clean decay from the mid-range and the tweeter. The drums are beautiful. The attack is quick and clean. And more importantly, since this is where many speakers often fall short, you can hear the decay of the drum strikes.”

” This is not the first time I’ve noticed low-end problems with loudspeakers which rely on two closely coupled drivers to cover the bass region. It can sometimes be done successfully by rolling off one of the drivers below the midbass. The problem is one of mutual reinforcement, a phenomenon in which two drivers, mounted in close proximity to each other, mutually reinforce each other’s output across a limited frequency band. This may well be the cause of the problem here.”
