“As you can see from the curves, the TT1’s frequency response is essentially flat, but with a slight downward tilt (less treble, more bass) in the balance. Horizontal off-axis response is truly outstanding. Check out the averaged responses in the chart, and you’ll notice that, while the extreme treble dispersion is nothing special (that dive you see on the green and red curves above 16 kHz), the midrange and lower treble is practically the same on-axis or off. That’s hard to do, and in my opinion it’s critical to getting true world-class sound.”

” So how much improvement does the 1+1 give us? The answer is simple; a lot. In general it plays louder, sounds fuller, has a bigger soundstage and is more emotionally involving. This review isn’t a comparison of the two speakers from Audience though; the 1+1 is good enough to be compared to any speaker with a lack of low-frequency extension.”

” Other than lacking full, under 50-Hz bass, this speaker is more accurate than many of the popular small pro speakers that are used today in the home recording world. Paradigm should make a powered version of this speaker, call it Prestige Pro 15B and get it into musician/pro audio dealers. It’s that good!”

” Tucked away in a booth on High End’s crowded main floor, and thus likely overlooked by many attendees, was a speaker that made as strong an impression on me as did Paradigm’s Concept 4F: the Oval B1 Decade, created to celebrate Vivid Audio’s tenth anniversary. The speaker was also designed to demonstrate not only that Vivid has stayed true to the roots of their original designs — it’s an update of the Oval B1, their first model, which remains one of their most popular models — but has made significant advances. Only 200 pairs of Oval B1 Decades will be made.”

” Don’t skimp on the amplifier either. These towers really thrive on the end of something with a strong current delivery. Our usual 300W-per-channel Bryston BP26/4B SST2 combination sounded great, but the jump in quality to Mark Levinson’s 326S/532H was clear.

“The Xeo 4’s offer a few options accessed around back including a “Speaker Position” switch for telling the on-board DSP where your XEO’s sit. Options include “Neutral” for free standing in-room placement, “Wall” if they’re near a wall (mine are), and “Corner” if the XEO’s have been bad. There’s also a three position “ID” Zone switch (Red, Green, Blue) which comes in handy if you have more than one pair of Xeos or if you find that one band is congested. Finishing off the backside is the power switch and power inlet for the included power cords.”

” The benefit of the sealed enclosure is that the influence of the back wall is less than with a reflex enclosure. A grand piano in a concert hall, the one recorded in Köln with Keith Jarrett playing (The Köln Concert), would benefit from more low end though. My 32m2 room is normally home to large transmission line speakers so as you can imagine a monitor, not even an active one like the Unity, will do the same job. Apart from that deep, deep low end the piano sounds amazingly clear, detailed and most of all natural. Keith’s ‘singing’ is clear when he hits the keys hard as well. ”
