IBASSO SR1 REVIEW $500
March 30, 2019 Comments Off on IBASSO SR1 REVIEW $500
“The SR1 has an interesting tuning on the low-end. It does not have an obvious sub-bass bias like Beyer’s DT1170 Pro but it is nevertheless very solid and planted sounding. Part of that is the punch and warmth delivered from an elevated midbass bias and a moderate elevation right at the very low-end of the FR around 20-40Hz.
In between, there is a slight dip in the measurements so it is not a linear tuning, suggesting a little bit of separation which, compared with the DT1770 Pro, might explain why it is not as dominating as it could have been on the SR1.

Parasound Halo JC 5 Stereo/Mono Amplifier $5995 Review
March 29, 2019 Comments Off on Parasound Halo JC 5 Stereo/Mono Amplifier $5995 Review
“One of my long-term reference recordings is Robbie Robertson and the Red Road Ensemble’s Music For The Native Americans (16/44.1 FLAC, Capitol), which I use for its sparkling clarity and the openness of its soundstage as Robertson explores the complex rhythms of the music of his native heritage. The Halo JC 5 handled the dual woofers and electrostatic panels of my ESL 9s in a way that re-created a huge soundstage with scary-good imaging. Through the Anthem M1s the sound was equally big and precise, but the bass lacked a bit of the slam and weight of the JC 5 in such cuts as “Akua Tuta” and “The Vanishing Breed.” This was also noticeable on Robbie Robertson (16/44.1 FLAC, Geffen) — the heartbeat-like rumblings in this album’s “Fallen Angel” had a massive weight that the M1s couldn’t quite duplicate. My head tells me I should be more impressed with the Anthems’ neutrality, but my heart belonged to the Parasound — my visceral reaction to its exciting sound was undeniable.”

BEYERDYNAMIC XELENTO WIRELESS REVIEW

“The IEMs are lightweight and comfortable, and the weight of the aluminium battery pack is quickly and easily mitigated with the attached clothing clip. The inline cable remote worked fine with both Apple and Android devices and didn’t get in the way during extended listening sessions.
When switching the headphones on, a smooth voice guides you through the pairing process, and the LED light on the cable will indicate current pairing status. Once paired, the IEMs had no trouble connecting and disconnecting to my source device, and I didn’t experience any dropouts or audio issues. ”

Revel Concerta 2 M16 Standmount Speaker Review
March 28, 2019 Comments Off on Revel Concerta 2 M16 Standmount Speaker Review
“The cabinet that houses all of this applied cleverness is a solid MDF affair that makes use of curved edges to reduce the effect of standing waves through the reduction of parallel surfaces. There is no provision for bi-wiring and instead you get a solid pair of binding posts on the back that should accept pretty much any type of cable with any type of termination. Magnetic grilles are supplied should you wish to use them and the cabinet is largely free of adornment or frippery.
The Revel is not an easy product to photograph – not least because like most piano finish products, it is both enormously reflective and capable of retaining fingerprint smears seemingly forever. It is however a member of the notorious category of ‘things that look better in the flesh.’ You’ll have to take my work for this but sat on a stand in most rooms, this is a handsome and appealing speaker. It does without some of the fussiness that can affect some American designs and the result is a pleasantly understated object that should work well in a variety of spaces. ”

Elac Adante AF-61VR Loudspeaker $5000 Review
March 27, 2019 Comments Off on Elac Adante AF-61VR Loudspeaker $5000 Review
‘The Elac AF-61 reminds me of that person in school who always had the right answer but never put his hand up first—the understated, confident one. Mid-priced by today’s standards, the AF-61 delivers in all the areas that a loudspeaker needs to. It can image precisely, play loudly without distress, extend low enough that with a bit of room-gain assistance a subwoofer may not be necessary, and be driven easily by the vast majority of good amplifiers, and looks comparatively unflashy while doing all this.
The ideal physical situation for this impressive loudspeaker would be a room that is slightly too big for the stand-mounted AS-61, and the ideal listener would be one who likes his music played louder than the AS-61 can muster. So, if you heard the AS-61 at a show or in a store, and thought “That’s the sound I want, but I just need a little bit more,” the AF-61 is very likely to supply the more that you crave.”

Jomo Audio Salsa Review

“According to the catalog, this is a Tidal Purple Mist design which is one complete make-up including purple translucent shells and an internal flake ‘scatter’ that covers the body and faceplate. I suspect it is a premium request and may cost a bit more. Something I will try to flesh out in the main review. For now, it is a cracking acrylic hollow body shell design that the camera picked up quite well.”

CH Precision P1 Phono Preamplifier $31.000 review
March 26, 2019 Comments Off on CH Precision P1 Phono Preamplifier $31.000 review
“I was really quickly entangled with the CH Precision P1 mind-boggling and complex core. I certainly didn’t predict to dip that deep and thoroughly into this apparatus, but once I’ve discovered P1’s current input potency I’ve literary pull out all of my cartridges that I own or have them in the review loop (Top Wing Blue Dragon, Top Wing Red Sparrow, Lyra Etna SL, Gold Note Tuscany Gold, Hana SL, Murasakino Sumile Mono, Etsuro Urushi, Miyabi Labs, Soundsmith Paua Mk Ii Cartridge etc.) and entered the non-plotted, but a most rewarding and prolonged sleepless nights analog adve”nture.
The cartridge list itself reveals my passion for the MC cartridges and with the up to 25dB user adjustable input gain, there was never even the slightest trait of the missing gain.”

Naim ND5 XS 2 media player Review

Read Here<code
"Most of the other setup chores were straightforward. To listen to Internet Radio, I chose that icon from the Naim app's home screen and was off and running. Having done that, I could sort and ultimately select stations by genre, country of origin, and other logical criteria. Similarly, to listen to files stored on a thumb drive, I inserted the drive in one of the ND5 XS 2's two USB ports, selected the app's USB icon, and presto—once again, I was off to the races.
Pairing a user-supplied smartphone with the Naim's Bluetooth input option isn't covered in the Quick Start Guide. Through trial and error, I found that getting my iPhone to communicate with the Naim depended on my turning off and then turning on all associated products and functions in just the right order. And although Naim's implementation of Bluetooth sounded no worse than any others I've heard, it was nevertheless not worth the trouble: As with just about every other Bluetooth-as-serious-audio-source effort I've experienced, the sound quality was to Tidal as soft-serve ice cream is to the real thing, only filled with slightly more icy particles. Don't bother."

Final E5000 Universal-Fit Earphone $279 Review
March 25, 2019 Comments Off on Final E5000 Universal-Fit Earphone $279 Review
“In my listening experiments the E5000 had a rich and solid midrange above par in its price class. Curtis Mayfield’s “Underground” from Roots [Curtom] is an excellent indicator of how the E5000 can move you to the music, putting a substantial bite and body to the midband groove. The treble, which I felt was a bit harsh out of the box, mellowed and became truly outstanding by the end of my tests. I would say the E5000 does just about everything well. Sure, I could have used a wider soundstage or maybe a more aggressive bass line on some hard-driving funky tunes. Who couldn’t? The E5000 is already a fantastically well-rounded earphone, and it’s scary to think that I am only just now in sight of the 200-hour break-in mark. Things are bound to get even better!”
