“As you can see from the curves, the TT1’s frequency response is essentially flat, but with a slight downward tilt (less treble, more bass) in the balance. Horizontal off-axis response is truly outstanding. Check out the averaged responses in the chart, and you’ll notice that, while the extreme treble dispersion is nothing special (that dive you see on the green and red curves above 16 kHz), the midrange and lower treble is practically the same on-axis or off. That’s hard to do, and in my opinion it’s critical to getting true world-class sound.”
OPPO PM-3 Headphones and HA-2 Portable Headphone Amp/DAC Review

“The HA-2 employs a hybrid class AB amplification circuit and a convenient asynchronous USB-DAC interface that allows the unit to receive digital audio inputs from any attached device. In my case this included the aforementioned Dell PC and an Apple ipad. The amp utilizes the superb ESS Sabre32 DAC which supports both 384 kHz PCM and DSD256 encoding and offers high-quality digital-to-analog conversion for a wide array of Apple-based devices, PCs and Mac computers. The amp operates on battery power and takes about an hour to charge fully when the battery runs down. I got about 6 or 7 hours of steady playback in-between charges. Even after two weeks of non-use, the HA-2 still retained about 75% of its playback power. Wow!”
REQUEST AUDIO THE BEAST £29,900 REVIEW

” I have waited a long time to find a way of removing the huge quantities of smashed CD jewel cases from my shelves, with a server that could punch like a good CD player, but to date my search has been fruitless. ReQuest’s The Beast changes that: it can better my Esoteric K‑05 CD player without an external atomic clock, albeit with one, the fight is much closer: but the Beast certainly justifies its sobriquet for its gravitas and the sheer awe it inspires. It has an alter ego: lithe, quick footed, and an intelligence, which is always present.”

” One final aspect of the deck caused my audio antennae to twitch. Most manufacturers (and most of us) dispensed with the sort of heavy rubber record mat fitted to the Langer many, many moons ago. At least this one is flat rather than patterned and profiled, and I spent quite some time listening with it in place, as I grew accustomed to the sound of the deck. But the longer I listened, the more tempting it became to experiment with alternative mats.”

” So how much improvement does the 1+1 give us? The answer is simple; a lot. In general it plays louder, sounds fuller, has a bigger soundstage and is more emotionally involving. This review isn’t a comparison of the two speakers from Audience though; the 1+1 is good enough to be compared to any speaker with a lack of low-frequency extension.”
DIGIBIT ARIA MINI MEDIA PLAYER £1995 REVIEW

” This suggests to me there is no clear-cut ‘winner’ in a straight fight between CD-quality and high-resolution audio. In my opinion, the best works on a case-by-case basis. This also suggests the Aria Mini is capable of genuinely excellent performance, and to my mind it comes substantially closer to the sound quality I can get from my high-end CD player than any other computer audio system I’ve yet tried. And this was with the standard-issue wall-wart power supply.”

” I haven’t used favourites or internal playlists much as they still have to be manually added track by track. I found this laborious right from day one, so I simply use an external database and editor to create external playlists. This takes some getting used to, but ultimately works very well.”
Jerry Harvey Audio JH13 Pro $1099 Review

” Listening to the mids on the JH13, one gets the distinct impression that these were not voiced to break any records in technical performance. Evenness and timbre on the JH13’s midrange are both pretty good, contributing to an experience that would typically be rather emotional and musical. “Typically” being the key word here. You know how the best Tom Yum soup comes with a fiery, almost angry, kick that’s simply impossible to miss? That’s not what you get here. The mids on the JH13 are more like chicken soup- linear, soothing, but not the most energetic and engaging.”

” The simple fact of the matter is that, as I stated above, if you look at Arcam’s UDP411 as a Blu-ray player first and foremost, it doesn’t really stack up all that well against cheaper options that deliver equal video performance (and equal audio performance via HDMI), along with a host of streaming video and audio apps and other connectivity benefits to boot.”

” Other than lacking full, under 50-Hz bass, this speaker is more accurate than many of the popular small pro speakers that are used today in the home recording world. Paradigm should make a powered version of this speaker, call it Prestige Pro 15B and get it into musician/pro audio dealers. It’s that good!”
