” The new technology used in the 85F tweeter has resulted in better dispersion, which has significantly improved the tonality and timbral accuracy. It has also widened the sweet spot and sound stage significantly. The 85F has one of the best implementations of an aluminum tweeter that I have heard from any speaker at this price point”

Audiofilia AF-S4 loudspeakers Review

“I heard artefacts behind me that I have not heard with other speakers, similar to the Q-sound effects, but filling the whole room (no doubt due to the harmonics effect that Audiofilia speak of). That’s not to say that the imaging wasn’t sharp because every element in the recording (if it was recorded properly) was sharply defined in space providing a clear impression of the wide and (very) deep sound stage. With some music, eg Faithless, when the volume was turned up, it was a bit like listening to that music with headphones on.”

“Compared with the CD stage of my Marantz SA-15S2 Special Edition SACD player, the Audio Space seems to go deeper, with drier and more convincing bass. The sound is more open and airy–certainly less tonally dense in the midrange–with a firmer foundation below and more sparkle up top. In other words the Audio Space is not rolled off à la Marantz. It is more agile, more neutral, less romantic. In a word, more accurate. It loves to rock. It has ample grunt down below.”

“And Type II’s bass is largely unchanged. It is multi-layered, detailed, wide, open, and clean. Both impact and sound pressure are neutral at the ear. You really can feel the shape and make of a bass guitar’s strings. It is as fast as ever, and when spinning organic instruments, textured unlike anything you’ll hear in an earphone.
Audiolab 8200MB Power Amp Review

” t this point, one must ask one self, what’s not to like? The only thing I found was that the Audiolab was just not digging as deep in to the music mix for some of the finer details that those big boy amps mentioned above does(that sin of ommision I can live with). The caveat here is that the rest of my system is from a few rungs up in the high end dom, and it was probably revealing the limits of the Audiolab 8200MBs. ”

“I actually own and play a two-pickup version of Wes’ guitar through a Fender Twi Reverb, and I know that tone. The record, VPI arm, Benz cartridge and the Luminous Arion all contribute to make it as real as possible. And the original recording is more than 50 years old!”

” . I’d never heard bass quality like this in my room from a subwoofer, let alone a pair of small floorstanders. Evidently the credit goes to the Hologram’s OB design — there were no box resonances to mess with the room modes that cause unruly bass. And when James Singleton’s double bass entered, its sound so convincingly energized the space that it felt as if he were right there, playing in my room. It was easy to follow the bass line in every track.

” Nevertheless, the input voltage and distortion figures do make for some grim reading. You see the distortion shoot up and the voltage go haywire in the early evening, as the world heads home to watch TV or use their iPads wirelessly. In my system, anything above about 2% distortion on the AC could be heard as adding grain and a hard ‘edge’ to the mid and treble, especially on high‑performance audio, and anything below about 225V robbed bass of its detail, dynamics, and life.”

” Frankly, I did not have very high expectations of the P1 SE. I was expecting it to be warm, fuzzy and “nice” to listen to, but not really a serious audiophile tool to enjoy and bring new insight into your music. I was surprised by its resolution, clarity and power (within reason), all served up with a generous dollop of that elusive single-ended beauty. Don’t get your knickers in a twist about not having 300Bs”
