” The Violin SE’s midrange tonality/timbres, along with its transition to the lower high frequencies, were at a higher level of refinement than the Unifield MK2. The Vivid V-1.5 offers speed, powerful micro-dynamics, and excellent transparency/clarity, allowing all the little details of the music to be easily heard. However, it suffers from what I previously mentioned in the body of the review regarding many speakers on today’s market”

“This immediacy a defining feature of the RP3 but it is never at the expense of the basics of great vinyl replay. The Rega is liquid smooth and manages the neat trick of being impressively refined despite the upbeat presentation. The treble and upper mid is detailed and spacious and does without the slightly syrupy quality that can affect vinyl but even with poorer pressings it remains impressively listenable.”

“While vinyl’s uptick provides an uplifting story within an industry on the downturn, vinyl sales are still a niche market. In the US, vinyl sales made up just 3.6 percent of all albums sold last year, according to Nielsen. Globally, vinyl sales account for only 2 percent of industry revenues, according to the IFPI.”

” This ADL pair rendered all of the subtle nuances of his vocals on this song exceptionally well. Elling’s voice floats back of forth effortlessly between high-pitched passages and deep bass tones. Not only did the H128 not add any edge to the higher octaves but they almost sounded just a bit softened compared to my highly resolved reference headphones, the similarly priced Aedle VK-1 ($480) from France. Actually, these two headphones represent the classic trade off of most audio components.

” I wish I knew how the Burr Brown version sounded in relation to the Sabre version I have here but since I don’t have that, I’ll just say what it does against the inexpensive Schiit MODI DAC. The MODI is really great for the price but against the ESS Sabre DAC, the MODI is a little bright sounding in comparison and the soundstage of the MODI flattens coming from the Sabre connected via USB input.”

” To confirm the Avita’s soundstage prowess, I play a lossless rip of Roger Waters’ Perfect Sense, Part 1 from Amused To Death. The spatial information and recording technique highlights exactly what this speaker is able to do. A clap of thunder breaks through the lazy congas and ambient cicadas and the Avita comfortably steers the deep, brooding sound up and around the ceiling of my room.”

“The raw frequency variations are well in excess of previous measurements but more troubling is the lowpass filtered results (green line), which compensates for test record eccentricities. It should be a relatively straight line.”

” While some of the biggest cans probably shouldn’t be worn out and about, aimed squarely at the hi-fi home listener, others are more versatile – and the more stylish over-ear designs are increasingly popular for everyday use.”
CLEARAUDIO PERFORMANCE DC TURNTABLE SYSTEM £2,495 REVIEW

“Unusually, the platter rides suspended on a patented Clearaudio magnetic support bearing which features a precision, low friction, ceramic shaft in a sintered bronze bushing to keep it running noise free, true and vertical. The weight of the platter causes the height of the bearing to drop slightly under its weight on a magnetic cushion, so that the platter floats on an invisible spring.”
