Tannoy Precision 6.1 Review

” the Tannoy appears a little less extended than some, and at high volume levels there’s just a trace of boxy colouration coming through. It’s not worse than any other similarly priced standmounter I’ve heard, but it does remind you you’re not listening to a high end speaker! Also, on loud peaks, there’s the slightest hint of dynamic compression, proving that no speaker with just a 6in bass driver and 11 litres inside is immune to the laws of physics.”

Magico S3 Review

” The S3s took around two weeks to warm up and ‘relax’ before the music really flowed. Ah, but when it did, they sounded astonishingly quick, the bass utterly free of bloom or overhang, securing musical rhythms with the deadly authority of a nail gun”

Marantz’s budget CD player and amplifier Review

February 17, 2015 Comments Off on Marantz’s budget CD player and amplifier Review

http://goo.gl/8ljh7A Read Here

“As you might expect, this Marantz combo sounds big, fat and warm. Both components have been voiced to hide their budget origins as well as is possible, and in this Marantz has succeeded. They simply don’t sound like your average, cheap, screechy budget hi-fi separates. Indeed, they’re so good that you can put them through some pretty accomplished, high-end speakers and they still won’t give the game away. In absolute terms, all they ever get to being is a bit diffuse and opaque – in short, if you want vast tracts of detail, then buy something better!”

“If you’re in it for the simple pleasure that accompanies a favorite pair of headphones, a comfy chair, a smoldering fire, and whiskey on ice, you are in the market for a really nice low-pass filter. In the section below I’ll outline just how nice the Cloud Nine’s low pass filter is.”

BAETIS INTRODUCES THE NEW XR3 MEDIA SERVER REVIEW

” Kal Rubinson of Stereophile gave our XR2 a great review in 2014, and we received a Recommended Component Award from the magazine. Yes, our prices have had to rise quite significantly to accompany these improvements in all of our models, and to have our servers shown and sold by those few high end audio dealers who fully understand digital audio and, especially, the new field of computer audio at the very highest levels of quality.”

Sony NWZ-F886 Review

” There are 32GB of built-in flash memory, which provides enough capacity for around 180 tracks of approx four minutes duration each at 24/192. Drop that to 96kHz and the capacity rises to 350. Up against the first cassette Walkman in terms of quality and quantity it is like a Lindt Lindor factory compared with a Nestle Milkybar.”

ROGUE AUDIO CRONUS MAGNUM REVIEW

“Build quality is solid but not fancy. Knock the top plate with your knuckle and it clonks in a rather uninspiring way, but it’s purpose is to protect you from it and vice versa, nothing more. Lift the amp up, however, and you may be surprised at how heavy it is. The ironwork must be extremely dense, which means that the whole thing is pretty much theft proof. I like the aluminium face plate and the low profile nature of the chassis”

VIOLECTRIC HPA V281 BALANCED HEADPHONE AMP + DAC $1000 Review

February 16, 2015 Comments Off on VIOLECTRIC HPA V281 BALANCED HEADPHONE AMP + DAC $1000 Review

http://goo.gl/H2jnC9 Read Here

” I have found that the HD800 paired with the Nordost Heimdall balanced cable to be incredibly revealing. The V281 used at the factory default gain setting was extremely neutral as there was no tipped presence in either the midrange or treble. The V281 actually has a similar sound signature to the V200. The character of the amplifier was smooth and the background was silent. There was definitely no unwanted noise or grunge coming from the V281.”
