Lavardin ITx20 £11,500 Review

November 3, 2022 Comments Off on Lavardin ITx20 £11,500 Review

Those who evaluate amplifiers like it’s a game of Top Trumps will never ‘grok’ Lavardin because a 55W, four-input amplifier that doesn’t even have a balance control doesn’t hit their spec buttons, and the presence of notionally the same product for thousands less will send them apoplectic. On the other hand, if you listen to the Lavardin ITx there is nothing remotely close to what it does… and the ITx 20 does it a lot better. If you want a valve amplifier but don’t want valves, listen to the Lavardin ITx. And if you like the ITx, only listen to the ITx 20 if you have that kind of money to hand. Because you just might not be satisfied with anything else.

VTL S-200 Signature Stereo Amplifier $12,500 Review

November 2, 2022 Comments Off on VTL S-200 Signature Stereo Amplifier $12,500 Review

That said, there’s a slight price to pay for this extra musicality. Although the KT88s are capable of cranking more volume than the 6550s in triode mode, they don’t quite match that tube complement’s tetrode muscle. So, one will, on occasion—especially if in a mood to crank some heavier rock—cause a tube to draw excess current, which activates the fault-sensing system to protect the amplifier by shutting down. A deck-mounted LED next to each of the output tubes indicates which one is having a problem, and rebooting takes about a minute. Now and then a tube may completely fail, requiring replacement, but that’s rare and, in any case, is something all tubes are prone to.

Tannoy Stirling Prestige Gold Reference loudspeaker $6990 Review

November 2, 2022 Comments Off on Tannoy Stirling Prestige Gold Reference loudspeaker $6990 Review

https://www.stereophile.com/content/tannoy-stirling-prestige-gold-reference-loudspeaker

Like other speakers I’ve reviewed that have horn-loaded drive units, the Tannoy Stirling Prestige Gold Reference is fast, plays with marvelous dynamics, and presents a full, believable, densely populated soundstage. It requires careful setup, but once that’s done, it rewards with excellent transparency, fine treble resolution, good midrange and bass fundamentals, and impressive textures. I’d go so far as to say that the Stirling, which just had its first price increase since 2013, is a bargain. Considering the adjustability of its treble output to accommodate different room sizes and conditions, the Stirling is an easy speaker to love.

Despite changes at the company, the Tannoy legacy continues with the Stirling, which proudly carries the torch for a classic, timeless design.

FIIO FH7S REVIEW

November 1, 2022 Comments Off on FIIO FH7S REVIEW

There are a lot of ear-tips inside, a total of 16 pairs. 2 of them are foams, and 2 more pairs are bi-flange tips. There are additional 9 pairs of silicone tips which are divided into “bass”, “vocal” and “balanced”. On top of all that, you get SpinFit tips for the flagship hybrid IEM. These weren’t present with the lower range FH5s model.

The tips are easily recognizable since they all have different colours. Once you memorize their colour you know which is which. Overall FiiO has covered the accessory part very well and you have absolutely everything you need inside. You even have an MMCX tool for making the detachable cable easier to work. Great attention to detail. Overall this is excellent packaging with a great presentation.

Wireworld Eclipse and Aurora Cables $1920 2M Review

November 1, 2022 Comments Off on Wireworld Eclipse and Aurora Cables $1920 2M Review

Wireworld is one of my favorite cable brands. They simply deliver great build quality, excellent customer service, and a good sounding, well reasoned product. There are those out there who will claim cables cannot and do not make a difference. I understand why they think that because I also used to think that. Wireworld was the company that proved me wrong. Every product I have used of theirs has made an improvement or a change that makes sense. The value in high end cabling is very much in the eye of the beholder. As someone with a mid five-figure 2-channel system, buying cables like this can make sense. However, as I said above, do not buy high end cabling (Wireworld’s entry-level lines are fantastic) for entry level systems. Do not buy flagship cabling for mid-level systems. There are better places to spend your money, but if you buy cabling that makes sense for the system you have, you will likely hear a difference, and you spend will be in line with the system you have. For those who are privileged enough to have a system like mine, Wireworld cabling is exceptional and has my highest recommendation. Audition it, touch it, try it, and I doubt you will return it.
