Estelon X Diamond Mk II $83,000 Loudspeaker Review

I think my assessment of the X Diamond Mk IIs is clear. This is not just one of the great floorstanding, direct-radiating loudspeakers; it is one of the greatest floorstanding, direct-radiating loudspeakers. Its relatively modest size (four-and-a-half-feet tall, a foot-and-a-half wide) and beautiful (and beautifully functional) shape make it ideal for modestly-sized-to-larger rooms (though Estelon’s bigger—and just as beautiful and innovative—transducers may better suit truly large spaces). Obviously, I recommend it. Indeed, I can’t recommend it highly enough. Which is why Alfred Vassilkov’s Estelon X Diamond Mk II is the 2021 winner of The Absolute Sound’s foremost honor, the Overall Product of the Year Award.

Chord Anni Desktop Amplifier Review

Is it a mini-amp with a fine headphone output, or a ‘head-fi’ design also capable of driving small speakers convincingly? However you look at it, Chord’s Anni is a great choice for desktop audio with a sound tailored to flatter partnering equipment. It’ll drive bigger, sensitive speakers at a push, but that’s not its role – the Anni ‘is what it is’, to quote an overused cliché, and looks and sounds well-judged for its tasks.

LSA Signature 50 Speakers Review

The LSA Signature 50 Speakers
There’s a cost to play because Underwood HiFi isn’t Amazon, Best Buy, or Nordstrom. If you don’t like the Signatures enough to keep them, there’s a 15% restocking fee. And you’ll have to pay to ship 50 pounds back. But remember, experience is what you get when you don’t get what you want, and everyone has to keep the lights on.
If the description of the LSA 50 Signatures ticks your boxes, you probably won’t want to send them back. That said, these are worth rolling the dice for. Should your system grow beyond the roots you plant with the LSA 50 Signatures, you’ll probably keep them for a second system or to pass on to your kids or a friend about to start their audio journey. They are that good.

Audio Research Reference 80S stereo power amplifier Review

That consistency is the joy of this amplifier. If you have a yearning for Big Boy Audio Research, but don’t want or need the additional power and the increased size, space, heat and price tag that top-end amplification requires, the Reference 80S is perfect. Making a bigger amp smaller is often a path to being disgruntled, or at least puts you some way from being ‘gruntled’. This is the first step on the Audio Research Reference power amplifier ladder, and I can’t help but feel that while it is for many the only step they’ll ever need to take, for others the excellent Reference 80S will be the first step into a world of the highest in high-end audio
