“My last track was actually my first track as I used it to compare the different MrSpeakers headphones using the QP2R as well as the different cables, but chose to revisit it at the end when talking about the QP2R performance, and that would be “And You And I — I. Cord of Life, II. Eclipse, III. The Preacher the Teacher, IV. Apocalypse” from Yes’ Close to the Edge (DSD). I was floored by the huge soundstage, the lack of sibilant hiss during certain vocal passages and the deep throaty bass as well as the clarity and detail.
I guess my tests wouldn’t be complete without some word on the new VIVO cable, it is definitely less microphonic and I believe there was a slight improvement in bass extension and resolution.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the HP70 headphones by NAD. These are simply the best active noise cancelling headphones I’ve heard in terms of tonality, transparency and clarity. They offer an experience that any audiophile would appreciate. The noise cancelling, while not to the level of the Sony WH1000X Mk3 or Bose QC35II, is quite good and does a great job on blocking outside noise and at the same time doesn’t interfere with the overall sound quality. Other competitor’s noise cancelling unfortunately has a deleterious effect on the overall transparency and I’m very impressed with the HP70s ability to avoid this pitfall. Build quality and comfort were also fantastic and I could use them for several hours without any hint of discomfort. The designers at NAD put great care into the HP70 Bluetooth headphones and the results really shine through after just the first listening experience. If you want a pair of noise cancelling, wireless headphones, but also yearn for a truly audiophile level experience, I strongly suggest you give the NAD HP70s an audition!”

“Next up I selected a more bass intensive recording. As I’ve always felt that the Abyss headphones have offered some of the very best bass quality and impact I’ve heard from a pair of headphones, I wanted to specifically see just how the new ear-pads affected this already impressive performance. “Lateralus” by the progressive metal band Tool was my choice to perform this specific comparison. As soon as the rumble kicked in from “The Patient” I could tell that the bass had changed slightly; but definitely for the better. The same depth and rumble was certainly present, but what I was able to discern was that some of the bloom with the original ear-pads was tightened up and made a bit more concise. Overall, as fantastic as the bass is with the original configuration, I found that the presentation now had among the tightest and most detailed bass there is in personal audio. To hear this level of depth, detail and texturing, I used to think you’d have to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a full two-channel stereo setup. Simply put, when you incorporate their expansive sound-staging, these headphones offer the closest speaker-like presentation I’ve heard in personal audio and the new ear-pads help the Abyss AB-1266 Phi / Phi CC headphones achieve a level that I didn’t think was possible.
