” If the DPA-1M could be said to have a character, it was in the direction of being lively—a bit forward rather than laid-back or subdued. For those familiar with digital cameras, the character of the DPA-1M was like a camera’s Vivid setting, which maximizes color saturation and contrast. Of course, a system’s sonic character is a function of all of the components in that system, especially the speakers, and one of the strengths of the Wilson Sabrinas is their ability to produce a dramatic, big-speaker sound that is out of proportion to their size. In this, the Sabrinas and the DPA-1Ms worked synergistically—which may be why Wilson so often uses these amps to demo the Sabrinas.”

” The cables are detachable. This is something we are seeing more and more of in earphones at all price ranges. It lets users change or replace the cable at a low cost without the need for buying and entirely new set if things go wrong. As the Pinnacle P1 are worn over the ear there are no microphonics at all and in day to day use we found the cable to be well behaved and resistant to tangles. Its not quite the premium feel you get on Vsonic’s GR07 or as stylish as some of my custom cables but it gets the job done.”

“The TDAI 2170 does have home theater bypass capability, which allows you to adapt this integrated amp into your existing home theater setup. I did experiment with this functionality, and it worked well. By connecting your surround sound processor’s front left and right preouts to one set of analog inputs on the TDAI 2170, and with a few setting changes in both my processor and TDAI, I was off and running. As suggested, I labeled that input as “Home Theater” within the Lyngdorf. Additionally, in this setup, you should connect your subwoofer directly to the TDAI following the manufacturer’s instructions. In this way, the Lyngdorf Room Perfect functionality benefits lower frequencies. I also had my processor automatically power on the TDAI with the remote trigger feature on both units, making it easy to use on a daily basis.”

“An obvious difference between the two designs was at the bottom end. While the TT1 underperformed a bit down low, the Silver 10 was occasionally a little too eager to chomp into a deep-bass riff. I didn’t dislike this; with a good recording of pipe organ or drums, and without a sub, I often heard more at the bottom end from the Monitors than from the Thiels. The Silver 10s captured more of the organ underpinning the chorus in at least a few passages of the Rutter Requiem and some of his other works on that disc. The Monitors were also better than the Thiels at reproducing the big Japanese drums on recordings by the taiko drumming troupe Kodo, both in the drums’ initial transient impact and the way in which the sound from the body of the instrument reverberated back into the recording space.’

” The Alpha & Delta D2M are a solid set of inexpensive sweat resistant sports earphones. Perfect for working out on long runs or bumming about the gym. They sound good for the price and are definitely tuned for working out. They look good and despite a couple of issues with the cable are very well made and hold up well under some tough testing. For $40 it’s very hard to go wrong here and it’s nice to see Lendmeurears off to a good start in their solo venture into portable audio products.”

“Some things are simply more fun when they are doubled. As a young man, viewing Wrigley’s Doublemint chewing gum advertisements was doubly enjoyable since they featured shapely identical twins. This brings to mind that I once dated identical twins – no, not at the same time! I never could be sure which one I was talking to by their appearance, however I could tell them apart by their sense of humor, so I told a lot of jokes! Though perhaps not as daring as dating identical twins, there is something doubly fun about having a pair of amps sitting up front, a type of “double whammy.” If you recognize that phrase, the odds are you’re getting pretty old. Ask any audiophile; a pair of meters is twice as mesmerizing as only one!”

” Planar magnetic headphones and their benefits are well known amongst the audiophile community but perhaps not so much to the casual observer. Planar headphones lie somewhere in between dynamic driver headphones (eg. Sennheiser HD800) and Electrostatic headphones (eg Kingsound KS-H1, Stax etc). The use of an ultra fast moving and super thin diaphragm set between two magnets means you can step over some of the limitations imposed in dynamic headphones.
