REVIEW: The Sonus faber Sonetto V Speakers
To be fair to the Sonettos, I left the past behind, making my way back to the current day, musically speaking. Bottom line, there was nothing I threw at the Sonettos that I felt they couldn’t do justice too. Getting in a party mood with “Oppa is Just My Style,” the Sonettos prove they can play loud when the need arises. Even at eviction notice levels, these speakers did not distort, bottom the woofer cones, or exhibit soundstage collapse. Staying at party SPLs, the deep bass line in Girls Day’s “Look at Me” had a few people looking for the subwoofer. And just before you think I’ve gone way too KPop on you, the new AC/DC single “Shot in the Dark” was just released, so a final infusion of heavy guitars (at high volume, of course) ticks the last box. This is a great pair of speakers that can play whatever you enjoy without excuse.

About the fine-tuning. As with other Wilson speakers, a step in the setup of the XVXes is measurement of the listening position, both in distance from the speakers as well as the floor. This is done to determine the correct settings for the various modules, in order to achieve exact time alignment at the listening position. But there’s also an important procedure that tailors the speakers to the amplifier with which they will be used. While previous Wilson models other than the WAMM used predetermined steps for time alignment of the drivers, the Gantry and Micrometer of the XVX allow infinite small incremental adjustments to correct not just for listening position but also the unique time smear of the partnering amplifier. Wilson Audio determines this through measurement of the amplifier, and those data are provided to the person setting up the speakers. Daryl Wilson admits that there are some similarities among the amplifiers he has measured, especially ones with similar topologies, but, as he put it, “Every manufacturer has its secret sauce.”

It was great to review and reignite my appreciation and passion for this particular type of speaker. All the positive qualities that have always attracted me to the full range speaker concept were easily verified. In addition, the Nenuphar has an impressive set of qualities I’ve touched upon and reflected in the previous section throughout the music references.
For what they represent sonically and how well they present music without adding or subtracting the essentials from it, I am happy to award the Cube Audio Nenuphar Mono and Stereo 2021 Highly Recommended Product Award

KLIPSCH THE FIVES REVIEW

The Klipsch Fives are a complete music system in one box. As tested by me, the Fives are fully capable of standing on their own and playing music from your mobile devices, or they can accept whatever digital or analog source you may have including a turntable. Although I think most of the environments that the Fives will be placed in will be small or compact, the Klipsch Fives did a great job filling my large family room. Never did I feel that the Fives were running out of steam. Considering the very fine sound and the low price (my moving coil cartridge alone is what the Fives sell for), I think Klipsch has provided their legendary sound in a compact package and priced it so that anyone can afford it. The Klipsch Fives are highly recommended for value and sound!

Detail levels are pleasing, though outright resolution and distortion levels are areas in which advancements in drive units and cabinet designs have resulted in significant improvements since the Extremas were made. A good modern high-end speaker will simply sound cleaner and clearer, but is it more enjoyable? Now, that’s open to debate. In much the same way that many enjoy driving a classic car more than a modern equivalent, so it is here.Advertisementhttps://39e25acc62da76679a6e3c478aec02db.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-37/html/container.html
We put on Bjork’s Vulnicura set and revel in the sonic textures and dynamic shading. There’s plenty of punch here, and the Extrema are more than happy to play at high volume. We enjoy the insight and effortless fluidity, not to mention their ability to make listening to music really feel like an all-enveloping experience rather than just a mere activity to pass the time. The Extrema seem to have a little bit of magic baked into their sonic DNA.

Sonus Faber Heritage Collection Maxima Amator Loudspeakers $15,000 REVIEW
February 13, 2021 Comments Off on Sonus Faber Heritage Collection Maxima Amator Loudspeakers $15,000 REVIEW
Sonus Faber’s target audience for its Heritage Collection, and for the Maxima Amator in particular, is not audiophiles who are cross-shopping designs from Focal, Magico, and/or Wilson Audio Specialties. This is an artisanal loudspeaker. The marriage of so many materials—solid walnut, leather, brass, marble—into such an evocative form gives the Sonus Faber a presence and a gravitas that are difficult to describe. It’s also a very good loudspeaker, with admirable output down to 35Hz, and a commendably linear, uncolored mid band. The Maxima Amator’s tipped-up tweeter means that its sound is not strictly neutral, but Sonus Faber’s skillful voicing has maximized the speaker’s dynamics without making it sound harsh or bright.
