All of this is governed via Cabasse’s StreamControl app along with access to streaming services including Deezer, Napster, Qobuz, Spotify and Tidal, plus the user’s own music, whether held on network storage or USB drives plugged into the speaker system.
The speakers include Wi-Fi and Ethernet networking, Bluetooth, and optical/coaxial inputs, and depending on which input is chosen can handle audio at up to DXD-level LPCM and DSD128. Meanwhile, analogue inputs are also provided on RCAs and balanced XLRs, with a stereo pair on each speaker – sources connected this way to one speaker will be shared to the other via the network connection.

Pass Labs X260.8 Monoblock Amplifiers $14,250 Review

My ears were trained years ago, late at night, in dark recording studios. I listened to thousands of hours of music, through the iconic Yamaha NS-10 studio monitors. The NS-10s were legendary in their transparency. No musical sin could hide from these speakers. None. If there was a problem, the NS-10 would reveal it. The Pass Labs X260.8 monoblock amplifiers remind me of these speakers.
If you love power, grace, transparency, and (if you move your equipment around a lot) occasional back pain; I highly recommend you demo a pair of the Pass Labs X260.8 monoblock amplifiers or any of the Pass Labs .8 series amplifiers. You will not be disappointed. Highly recommended!

Marantz SACD 30n and Model 30 £2,899 Review
August 13, 2022 Comments Off on Marantz SACD 30n and Model 30 £2,899 Review
Compared to many other silver disc players, CDs on the SACD 30n had a nice depth and weight that made them sound more like SACDs. SACDs sounded better still – solid, weighty, and clean, with bite and clarity, plus a nice unexaggerated naturalness.
Playing Copland Orchestral works Vol 1 SACD [Chandos CHSA 5164] the bass drum on ‘Fanfare for the Common Man’ had truly awesome heft and depth – real floor-shaking bass, but only if your speakers are capable of reproducing low frequencies below 25Hz.

LSA VT-70 Integrated Amplifier Review

The LSA VT-70 Integrated Amplifier
With internet pundits claiming high end audio is going under on nearly a daily basis, this is precisely the kind of product to get more people interested in a decent music system that might have thought they couldn’t afford it. Honestly, we need a few more benchmarks like this.
The LSA VT70 is the perfect amp at the perfect price, whether you’re investigating high performance audio for the first time, taking your first spin with a tube amplifier, or perhaps looking for a great second system. It’s musical satisfying, aesthetically pleasing, and gets the job done. Highly recommended.

SVS ULTRA BOOKSHELF SPEAKERS REVIEW

Switch to Moonlight Sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven and the cable helps to communicate the harmonics of the piano and the differentiation between key strokes. The ebb and flow of the track is communicated with greater clarity. Notes sound natural and realistic. The speaker cable doesn’t allow dynamics to shine quite as brightly as the very best at the money, though, and there’s a slight emotional disconnect from the music.

TAD Evolution One TX Loudspeaker $29,995 Review
August 11, 2022 Comments Off on TAD Evolution One TX Loudspeaker $29,995 Review
The TAD Evolution One TX is an exemplary performer all-around and, thanks to the care that went into its design, one that will work well in a wide range of real-world listening environments. If your room isn’t palatial, but you still want sound that maintains coherency, detail, and timbral consistency as the music scales up, this could be the speaker for you. Sonically, the E1TX is competitive with similarly priced products from other top manufacturers, including some with the name of the company’s founder on the faceplate. If someone does ask who designed your loudspeaker, you can always point to the badge on the front baffle and say: “Oh, some guy named Tad.” I’m sure that Mr. Nagatani and the others on his talented team won’t mind.

Schiit Audio Bifrost DAC & Lyr+ Headphone Amplifier $599 Review
August 11, 2022 Comments Off on Schiit Audio Bifrost DAC & Lyr+ Headphone Amplifier $599 Review
I’ll be interested to get my hands on a Lyr+ and see what it does in the event of tube failure as I have not seen a full description of the tube sensing mechanism (how the Lyr+ determines that a tube is present).
The 6SN7 is a fairly common tube but good ones are becoming harder to find, and the prices are certainly climbing. The $599 USD price will turn out to be a good value once tube prices become sane again and users can use the Schiit Lyr+ as a line stage with active loudspeakers or a power amplifier.

Astell&Kern Pathfinder IEM:$1,900 Review
August 10, 2022 Comments Off on Astell&Kern Pathfinder IEM:$1,900 Review
There was no surprise that the Astell&Kern DAPs provided a slightly warmer and more organic sound than the Sony which leans more towards being analytical sounding.
Both the RME and Aurora offered similar sonic signature with a bit less warmth than the Astell&Kern DAPs but a touch more than the Sony. The best pairings were the Astell&Kern SP2000 and Yulong Aurora that struck the best balance between color, texture, and detail overall.

Grado RS1x $750 Review

That the RS1x are dynamically gifted isn’t a surprise considering their open-back design, which is also why you won’t get as much bass depth as closed-back models typically offer. What acceptable levels of bass you do get, though, are textured and delivered with the same pleasing agility as the rest of the frequency range.
Going up in Grado’s range rewards you with greater subtlety and refinement, but the X Drivers have bridged the gap somewhat and we’re very fond of their exceptional clarity and fleet-footed musicality. We do actually find that you can make small gains in refinement and get slightly more bass presence by swapping the RS1x’s sponge on-ear earpads with the larger ‘over-ear’ versions that are supplied with the Statement Series but also available to purchase separately – a small upgrade, in our minds, but arguably worth it for the modest extra outlay.
