” For those of us with limited room and a love of listening to music through quality audio, the Danish company Raidho offer notable, if costly, salvation and the D-1.1 is the flagship of these small, supremely endowed models. Designed by Michael Børresen, the D-1.1 is the latest version of what began life as the D1. But, appearances can be deceptive and what we are really looking at here is virtually a new speaker that shares only the main cabinet and the tweeter with the D1. The baffle and back plate are new as are the crossover and rear connections, while the 115mm mid/bass driver has undergone major modifications with a new motor structure and surround. This has resulted in a 1.5dB rise in efficiency.”

“Ultimately it was felt by majority of the group that the Coherence II and the Synergy IIi, both with the BPS + external switching power supply, sounded best. While I shared some of this sentiment, I felt that none of the other amps could match the enormously impressive levels of transparency and resolution of the Corus, and its superb bass sealed the deal for me. I have been on a quest for more neutrality for some time now and for me, the Corus was the winner, even if it marked the start of a different sound signature for the Jeff Rowland brand.”

“Next I popped on a set of Ultimate Ears’ UE900s ($399) in- ear headphones that house four proprietary balanced armature drivers—two low-frequency, one midrange, and one treble driver—in each earpiece. As i listened to Frank Sinatra belting out “Blues in the Night” from his Only the Lonely album, the iSine 10 put me more in touch with Ol’ Blue Eyes’ expressive phrasing and dynamics. By contrast, the UE900s flattened them and yanked the soundstage inside my skull. It was a lot less fun to listen to.”
