Tannoy Eclipse 3 Review

“There’s plenty of snap to the rhythm track, a good dose of attack and enough refinement at the top-end to prevent things turning overly harsh. Prince’s vocals are as quirky as ever with the Tannoy’s fluid and articulate midrange coming to the fore.”

Oppo PM-2 Headphone Review

May 2, 2016 Comments Off on Oppo PM-2 Headphone Review

” I reunited the Oppo with the DragonFly for some valedictory listening. The PM-2 could conjure the weight of Evgeny Kissin’s recording of Liszt’s “Mephisto” Waltz No. 1, from Kissin Plays Liszt (ripped from CD, like all of my Apple Lossless files). Timbre and overtones were perfectly natural. An orchestral selection—Claudio Abbado leading the Berlin Philharmonic in the Scherzo from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (FLAC 96/24)—revealed that the Oppo was not just smooth, but warm, enabling a high volume setting that accommodated Beethoven’s wide dynamic swings. Kettledrums thundered in the left with plenty of bass definition and control.”

Chord DAVE $13,000 Review

“The layering of the orchestra in its proper location and sound staging was wide and deep with air and space between each section of the orchestra. The DAVE just played music. The sound was more like listening to a analogue record without any of the drawback that you would get listening to vinyl and had the explosive dynamics and range that only digital can provide. The DAVE sound was not digital in any way. The musicality and tonality were exceptional.”

QUESTYLE CMA800R HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER REVIEW

May 2, 2016 Comments Off on QUESTYLE CMA800R HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER REVIEW

Read Here

” Essentially, current mode acts as it sounds like it acts: the signal is amplified by modulating the current rather than the voltage. Current and voltage are not exactly strange bedfellows, their relationship is forged in Ohm’s law, and the resultant current mode amplifier creates an inherently low distortion and wide bandwidth design. Current mode is a very common amp design in high-speed communications and video processing. The CMA800R features an additional voltage-controlled current source and a current amplifier in front of a more traditional Class A output stage, but creating those two amplifier stages requires a low-impedance negative feedback circuit that reacts a couple of orders of magnitude faster than conventional voltage mode amp designs. In addition, the amplifier’s slew rate achieves a linear increase as input signal amplitude increases, in direct proportion to the input signal amplitude. When receiving a high amplitude signal, a current mode’s amplifier’s slew rate is much faster than traditional voltage mode devices, eliminating intermodulation distortion and ensuring a high amplitude signal, with an extremely wide linear bandwidth and an almost distortion free realistic playback.”

VANDERSTEEN AUDIO TREO CT LOUDSPEAKER REVIEW

May 2, 2016 Comments Off on VANDERSTEEN AUDIO TREO CT LOUDSPEAKER REVIEW

” Throughout this evaluation there was one trait that, like an addiction, continually fueled my excitement for the Treo CT. It was the speaker’s of-a-piece coherence. This is not always a given in the high end. Many multiple-driver loudspeakers—primarily designs with three or more transducers—fail to speak with one voice. Instead, the listener can identify each driver as it jockeys for prominence up and down the front baffle. In contrast, the Treo CT was like a top-drawer two-way compact—a segment long celebrated for its ability to reveal three-dimensional space while remaining invisible as a sound source. Similarly, the Treo CT (far better proportioned across the frequency spectrum than a two-way) projected a vast image of the legendary Chicago Symphony Orchestra performing the Beethoven Ninth. Its spread across the soundstage was replete with height cues that reached well above the speaker, and depth cues that drew my eye to the back wall of the hall each time the percussion section lit up and the vast chorus rose in intensity.”

Schiit Audio Ragnarok integrated amplifier

” The Ragnarok does have two balanced (XLR) and three-single-ended (RCA) inputs, and four vulcanized rubber feet. (Don’t laugh—no other Schiit product of my experience has had feet of any kind.) This four-footed legend also has one balanced and one single-ended preamplifier output.”
