” When optimally isolated, I found the overall sonic signature of the PS-HX500 to be good but not on a par with what I’m used to hearing from my vinyl. The primary sonic issue was a particular upper midrange character that my mentor J. Gordon Holt would have called “splichy.” This is an added resonance that gives the upper midrange an unnaturally plastic coloration. Whenever I listened to the PS-HX500, even after trying my best to maximize its isolation, I was aware of these colorations affecting the turntable’s fidelity.”

“The second warning is about the feet of the Maggies. The loudspeakers sound better if you keep them perpendicular to the floor, no backward positioning. Magneplanar proposes, as an option, the plexiglas feet that makes the price more expensive.
A trick could be to put something under the feet in order to reach the position in which the panels are more steady. The soundstage will enhance together with the high range. ”

CAYIN N5 $319 REVIEW

” I stated before the N5 has a fairly small non touch screen (2.4”) and that requires an easy to use Interface. I’ll get in to the menus right away but first a bit more on the screen. While every bit of information you might need is there, the LCD screen is packed as full as it can. Right now on the top from left to right it displays: Volume level – SD Card – Gain – Phone (scrolling) – Playing now – Play/Pause – EQ OFF – Shuffle play – battery level – battery icon. 80% of the screen is taken by the album art that loads in less than 1 second after you start playing a song. In the album art you’ll find the name of the album, the file name, the bit-rate and the type of file. Beneath that you’ll find a bar that shows you where in the song you are and how long the song takes. It also shows the total number of files and which one is playing. If you don’t have any album art stored on your card, generic wallpaper will be shown. Anyway, that’s a lot of information for such a little screen, but it does what it needs to do.:

MARTINLOGAN MOTION 60XT REVIEW

” With the prerequisites out of the way, I began assessing the combined performance of the Silver Seven 700 amplifier and the Motion 60XT. Though the speakers already sounded exceptional driven by the Sunfire amp, it didn’t take long to hear differences in the presentation with the Silver Seven. The ESL-like delicacy of the treble that, when using the Sunfire, sometimes became slightly edgy when played loud, was softened, remaining light and delicate even at higher volumes, until the AMT tweeter output finally began to beam a bit. The bass, already well presented with the Sunfire, took on a character and depth previously unheard, with 3-D spatiality perhaps the most improved sonic characteristics I noted. Although the Sunfire amplifier had previously raised the bar for Fleetwood Mac’s “Woman of a Thousand Years” from Future Games [CD, Warner] to the highest level in my experience, the Silver Seven 700 revealed a never-before-experienced depth and dreaminess in the recording.”

Wilson Audio Sabrina Loudspeakers $15,900 Review

” This is the “expression” Wilson and his speakers are after: a construct of live-music absolutes that informs the design process and against which all Wilson Audio speakers are ultimately judged. Of course, recorded sound falls short of its live equivalent in so many ways, although there is one instrument that a very good recording can come very close to re-creating with that same construct of absolutes: solo acoustic guitar. Its range, even at its extremes, and transient qualities are within the ability of a very good speaker to convey, and the recording engineer doesn’t have to be a savant to capture them.”
