DEFINITIVE TECHNOLOGY SYMPHONY 1 HEADPHONES REVIEW

We loved the sound by Bluetooth, the slight brightness of the active circuitry compensating for any softness through the Bluetooth link and delivering a lively, balanced and energetic performance. Their 50mm drivers can deliver low, as witnessed by Neil Young’s Walk With Me suitably shuddering the skull under its low resonances, they had the light touch required for the detail in Paul McCartney’s My Valentine, and they passed the congestion test of kd lang’s The Air that I Breathe, its tricky layers and rising dynamics remaining smooth and information-rich even during the massed vocal peaks.
Ayre Acoustics MX-R Twenty Mono Amplifiers

I heard evolutionary changes in multiple parameters. Overall, these could be described as a greater robustness in the MX-R Twenty’s sound over the MX-R: more meat on the bone. The MX-R Twenty did away with the faintest sheen of electronic haze that I heard in the MX-R only in direct comparison with a pair of Aesthetix’s Atlas Signature tubed/solid-state monoblocks. What I’d incorrectly attributed to the faintest remnant of LP surface noise or master-tape hiss in the otherwise effervescent sound of Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald’s Porgy and Bess (180gm LP, Verve/Speakers Corner MGVS-6040-2) was revealed as an artifact introduced by the solid-state MX-R. There was no hiss with the MX-R Twenty. The increase in contrast made possible by eliminating the perception of a noise floor (rather than artificially boosting the top) opened the door to greater enjoyment regardless of volume level, and never at the expense of long-term listening pleasure. There was nothing etched about the MX-R Twenty’s sound.
WOO AUDIO WA5LE V2 VACUUM TUBE HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER

Off to the left, next to the now-standard XLR output, is a chunky knob that’s very helpfully marked “Power”. I like power. Moarrr powah! The knob has three positions: speaker, high and low. On the WA5LE, the ‘speaker’ option is unavailable/can’t be selected (this is reserved for the WA5, but the WA5LE and WA5 share a faceplate), but the high/low can be. Select ‘high’ and the amp gives you all she’s got — 8 watts per channel. In case you were wondering, this is a stunning amount for a headphone amplifier — but with great power comes great responsibility, so please be careful. Select ‘low’ and the secondary circuit topology is selected, yielding a total output of 1.5 watts/channel

In my full XLR connected system, I found that setting level output to 61 was about the best compromise for all musical genres. Sometimes playing orchestral recordings, I would reduce the output level at the BMC to 59, but increase the overall volume on my pre-amp for a more laid back, fuller and in scale orchestral presentation or when playing some nice female vocal recording like Stacy Kent, I would increase the BMC output slightly to 63, and reduce the pre-amp volume slightly to get a more focused vocal effect, so that illusive 50 cent mouth so craved by a certain audiophile group is easily attainable here! Doing that bring about a more luscious voice and a deeper, more tonic filled saxophone sound of Jim Tomlinson(Stacey’s life & musical partner), giving a more intense experience to the overall musical enjoyment.

What was also immediately apparent with this choice of music was how well the speakers performed at low volume levels. There is a tendency to crank up the volume on orchestral music to achieve concert hall levels, which is often an unintended antidote for speakers that do not perform well at low levels. Concert-hall volume for baroque music is actually quite modest, and many speakers stumble achieving a sense of detail and pace at such levels. Not so with the Olympica IIIs, which were lithe and nuanced at the appropriate low levels

Forza Audio Works Hybrid IEM Cable

well depending on your monitors and the sound you want this cable could be a very good option. The prices of Forza cables are very reasonable compared to some other brands, the quality is always excellent as if the service. And this cable will give you a little more space and refinement, with a tad more sparkle. It doesn’t make the sound artificial or boost anything too much. A very subtle difference but an upgrade for my particular monitors. Also the build quality and warranty will make you rest easy knowing Forza are there if anything goes wrong, ergonomics and build quality alone probably warrant the purchase of this cable.
