The cups are surprisingly nice too, the HW600 featuring intricate patterns carefully carved through CNC machining. The headband remains in stainless steel for better torsion resistance, but apart from that, all the other pieces seem to be made of the same aircraft-grade, anodized, aluminum. Pair that with ultra-thick earpads, made of breathable lamb-skin earpads, filled soft-foam padding, a sturdy braided cables with balanced termination, and you end up with one of the most satisfying experiences you could get from a $1000 headphone.

Prodigy Plus Record-Cleaning Machine Reviews

The controls couldn’t be simpler: an on/off switch on the right of the front fascia starts/stops the suction and the platter rotation; the supplied remote control turns the lighting on or off. The cleaning process is straightforward too: you place the record on the small rubberized platter and screw down the rubber clamp; put a few drops of cleaning fluid on the record evenly; start the platter rotating, and then hold the brush on the record for about a minute to disperse the fluid across the disc and dislodge contaminants; then, you simply place the suction arm on the inner run-out groove of the record. The arm will traverse the record from end to start in one minute, sucking up the cleaning fluid and foreign matter, leaving the record perfectly clean and dry and instantly playable.

On the Prodigy the platter direction isn’t reversible (it is on the Loricraft), but for my relatively clean collection, a single pass in one direction has always been enough. The Prodigy platter is also quite small, not much bigger than a record label, and offers no direct backing to most of the playable part of the record (the larger platter on the Loricraft supports the entire record surface). In practice, therefore, you can’t bear down hard on a flimsy record to scour it, not that I’ve ever needed to do that—neither brush benefits from being pressed down. The advantage of the smaller platter, other than allowing the machine to be more compact, is that it doesn’t contact the cleaned side when the record is flipped over.

Lorenzo Audio Labs LM1 Loudspeakers $200,000 Review

December 21, 2024 Comments Off on Lorenzo Audio Labs LM1 Loudspeakers $200,000 Review

Cut to the chase. First impressions were highly favorable. The LM1s sounded musical from the very first note. Presumably because of the rigid, lightweight, high-efficiency drivers, the LM1s sounded super dynamic! It was astounding. The horn loaded tweeter and super tweeter were indeed very special. They sounded open, open, open. The sound was fast, transparent and extended, totally musical, sweet, and engaging. As good as my reference Vimberg Tonda D was, it was no match for the LM1s. They’re a game changer. I said to myself they better be superior as they cost about three times as much as the Tonda Ds. Tondo D is an exceptional loudspeaker regardless of the cost, and it competes with loudspeakers that are much higher in price. Of course, the higher we go up the ladder, at some point there’s a diminishing of return. But listening to the LM1s was a revelation. They were involving and rewarding with all types of music. You don’t need to go back and forth to compare the two. What can I say? The LM1s are in a class of their own. The LM1s rendered music brilliantly and effortlessly with solidity and proper weight delivering a transparent and resolved midrange, and a treble presentation that was impeccable with an exceptional richness of overtone and proper timbre. When done correctly, there’s a magic in speakers that use a large high sensitivity single driver. I think it is superior to using multiple smaller drivers. A large driver moves air differently, effortlessly, and produces more realism and ease with weight and solidity.

Air Tight ATM-1 2024 Edition power amplifier Review

We feel the copper base board offers a clearer sound character compared to a polymer-based circuit board,” Miura said. “We never mount tube sockets on a polymer-based circuit board. Differences in thermal expansion and contractions of polymer and metal will eventually damage the circuit board and cause cracks, and the whole printed circuit board will need to be replaced.”

“For our tube sockets, we use a very basic plastic base with a steel-type socket,” Miura noted. They’re supplied by Japan’s Sankyu Technos Co. You might expect to see pricier ceramic versions in an amplifier at this level. “We avoid ceramic bases for tubes, as tolerance to the pin holes are not as accurate as we want. We think this happens due to shrinkage of ceramic during the calcination process. We’ve experienced ceramic bases not matching the pins of the tubes. We do use a ceramic base socket for the 211 tube in the AirTight ATM-2211 mono, which requires high-voltage insulation

Bluesound Node Nano Review

December 20, 2024 Comments Off on Bluesound Node Nano Review

That said, the Nano struggles more when it comes to providing a piece with sufficient dynamic perceptiveness to turn a pretty painting into an incomparable masterwork. Easygoing and robust as You And Whose Army? sounds through the Bluesound, it’s hard to escape the lack of drama that ensues as the track builds toward its supposed climax, with the titchy streamer tending to smooth over dramatic crescendos and decrescendos, to the detriment of a song’s emotional impact.

It’s easily beatable for rhythmic capabilities, too. That smooth nature could be less charitably described as a little leaden, and it’s certainly true that much of the sonic momentum of Hans Zimmer’s Up Is Down from Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End is cast overboard and lost in Davy Jones’ proverbial locker. Core rhythmic patterns are often poorly conveyed, a deficit that shows up particularly starkly when listening out for the distinctive drum pattern on Born To Die. Squint your ears and you’ll detect it, but it requires noticeable effort on the part of the listener. If you want more rhythmic snap and insight, the cheaper WiiM Pro Plus would be the logical alternative.

In summary, Roger writes that the DMP-A8 was “an absolute pleasure to review thanks to its solid construction, stable operation, and excellent sound quality.” This combination of qualities, and its reasonable price, earned the DMP-A8 a Reviewers’ Choice award when the review was published. But it is for its sound quality, as assessed by Roger and as corroborated by our test-bench measurements, that the DMP-A8 earned a Recommended Reference Component award this month.

Quad Revela 1 loudspeaker $2995 Review

December 19, 2024 Comments Off on Quad Revela 1 loudspeaker $2995 Review

No matter what I threw at it, recordings or ancillary gear, the Revela 1s made me forget my cares and get happy. Sparkling, pure highs meet rich, warm bass for a very satisfying sound. Forget harsh treble; the Revela 1’s treble is smooth, see-through, and revealing, and allied to rich, flowing, surprisingly impactful bass.

Serious fun and a solid value, this speaker comes with stands and, though modern in appearance and features, boasts the vintage pedigree of one of audio’s most respected brands. Recommended without reservation.
