The Garbi 60 monophonic power amplifiers deliver 60 W in pure class A, which can be associated with any of our models—versatility and control at the highest level. Associated with our monitor, they provide an impact and control that leaves no one unmoved. Undoubtedly, an ideal proposal for those who desire the most demanding reproduction from a monitor, being the scene size and simply incredible depth.

T+A SOLITAIRE P PLANAR HEADPHONES AND HA 200 HEADPHONE AMP $6,900 REVIEW

June 27, 2024 Comments Off on T+A SOLITAIRE P PLANAR HEADPHONES AND HA 200 HEADPHONE AMP $6,900 REVIEW

he HA 200 Amplifier is a stout component with one of the best-built cases I’ve ever seen. There isn’t a single stamping in evidence. Rather, the front panel is milled from billet aluminum. The top, bottom, and back are aluminum plates; and the sides are extruded finned heat sinks. It’s sized somewhere between a desktop amp and a rack-mounted box with decent heft at just over 14 pounds. Every button operates with a high-end feel and the volume dial has firm clicks as well.

In the front, starting on the left, are the three headphone outputs switched by buttons. Above those are analog VU meters, always a nice touch. Next is a row of discrete input selectors. Above that is a detailed display that shows the current input, bitrate, volume level, and the status of any sound enhancements that might be operating. The volume knob on the far right clicks firmly as you turn it. If you adjust the volume with the remote, it makes audible clicks.

Sonus faber Lumina II Review

And the longer you listen, the more sense the Lumina II makes. Where specific rivals will best it in specific areas, when you judge the Sonus faber across a really varied selection of different music, it quite literally doesn’t miss a beat. It might lack the joy that the sheer improbability of the Lumina I’s performance can deliver but, as a £1,000 all-rounder, the Lumina II is a hugely compelling speaker likely to win many converts to the Sonus faber brand

Avantgarde Acoustic’s MEZZO G3 Horn-loaded Speakers

June 26, 2024 Comments Off on Avantgarde Acoustic’s MEZZO G3 Horn-loaded Speakers

Our experience with the aforementioned models was always somewhat of a mixed bag; proper alignment of the drivers and positioning of the loudspeakers were critical to getting the maximum amount of performance out of them.

EIC Ian White recalls more than a few Avantgarde demonstrations with very expensive amplification that were shockingly poor considering the extremely high price of admission.

Get everything correct, and the older models could absolutely vanish in your listening room and deliver a rather immediate and forceful sounding presentation.

Get it wrong — an absolute mess that would have a hard time making a case for itself against most systems today under $10,000. And that includes everything.

FEZZ AUDIO EVO SILVER LUNA PRESTIGE INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER $3,495 REVIEW

June 26, 2024 Comments Off on FEZZ AUDIO EVO SILVER LUNA PRESTIGE INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER $3,495 REVIEW

Once I unpacked the unit, I had it set up and running in under 15 minutes. I ran a PS Audio DSD Perfectwave DAC into input 1 and an Oppo UDP-203 optical disc player into input 2. There are upgrade modules available from Fezz to make the amp Bluetooth capable or to add sub outputs (not included on my review sample), but I used my Perfectwave as my streamer and most of my listening was done via Qobuz. I will not go into an essay on how tubes affect the sound quality because Dr. Johnson gave a comprehensive treatise on it when he recently reviewed the Octave Audio V 110 SE integrated. The irony for me is that I just recently purchased a Benchmark AHB2 amplifier which outputs virtually no distortion even at full rated power (.0003%). When using a tube amp, having some euphonic secondary harmonic distortion is part of why one chooses a tube amp. I enjoy the sound of each amp, but I want to use a low-distortion amp for critical listening to review various products.

Acoustic Signature Verona NEO turntable

The TA-5000 NEO and TA-7000 NEO tonearms continue the effort to keep things simple, providing all of the key adjustments and most of the tools needed for an accurate cartridge setup. Azimuth adjusts in the familiar Acoustic Signature way, by slightly loosening the two screws that attach the armtube to the bearing assembly, then rotating the tube. An uncalibrated counterweight screws onto a fine-pitch threaded rod at the back of the arm, making it easy to fine-tune small changes in the tracking force. The antiskating adjustment is a simple, calibrated dial. The arm comes with a nice dedicated Dennesen-style single-point alignment protractor for setting overhang and zenith, but you will need to provide your own tracking force gauge. I recommend and use the Riverstone Audio gauge: It’s accurate, affordable, and it measures the tracking force close to the level of a record’s surface.

Naim Audio NAP 350 Mono Amplifier $8499 each Review

The ATC SCM40 isn’t an especially difficult load to drive. Its impedance drops to just under 6 ohms, but it’s inefficient by modern standards, delivering just 84dB at 1W/m. As a result, it needs a lot of power to get it to move air—those drive units are very heavy. In truth, my NAP 250 delivers the bare minimum to get the job done: the significantly greater output from the pair of NAP 350s enabled continuous high output levels with ease. I never managed to drive the monoblocks into thermal shutdown, which occasionally happens with my NAP 250. The NAP 350s got pretty warm, but they were completely stable. Furthermore, the sonic character didn’t change with output level, lending the NAP 350 pair a sense of effortlessness that my NAP 250 simply lacked.
