I was first introduced to Infigo Audio (based in BC, Canada; Infigo means “impressive” in Latin) by hearing their Method 3 Class A monoblocks ($55,000/pair) at the home of Mike Levy (CEO/Founder of Alta Audio). Beautiful and unusual looking, they were gold-coloured blocks with an open top but with a clear glass protective cover, revealing the electronics inside with calming blue light. I was seriously impressed by the sound—but intimidated by the price. There was something new to my ears that was unique. I was intrigued.

ELETECH ODE TO LAURA $2,799 REVIEW
October 10, 2023 Comments Off on ELETECH ODE TO LAURA $2,799 REVIEW
The Ode to Laura cable enhances all details. It adds a sheer amount of resolution throughout the entire frequency spectrum from top to bottom. Bass has higher definition, better speed and articulation. But unlike other copper cables, it doesn’t add anything to it. Laura doesn’t give a bigger body or more weight to the lows. It only delivers speed and precision, but that at the highest possible rate.
In the mids Laura comes across with a smooth sound, making vocals become airier and softer. It adds a layer of an organic touch, making everything sound a bit more Class-A-analogue. It doesn’t oversatuate the midrange, but still adds this bit of warmth, that makes music a little more enjoyable.
With the added resolution and details it’s no wonder, that Laura also takes things up a notch when it comes to imaging sharpness and sound-stage positioning. It makes it easier to pin-point specific instruments by clearly separating all musicians and tones from each other. Even in big orchestras and complex or busy structures Laura delivers masterfully.

Sonus faber Homage Amati G5 Loudspeaker £30,000 Review

That’s not to say they don’t do all kinds of music very well indeed, for they are as ‘universal’ a speaker as we’ve heard at this price point. The Amati G5s certainly give a glowingly close-up view of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s voice on ‘Tokyo’ [Hana; Cooking Vinyl download], her (slightly overlong) romantic/bittersweet paean to Japan, written after an early 2020 trip just before the pandemic struck.
So too, they are light and sprightly with Bill Charlap’s ‘Not A Care In The World’ [Notes From New York, Impulse!; 96kHz/24-bit], while big and thunderous with the pulsing bass and synths from Alison Goldfrapp’s ‘Fever (Special Request Club Mix)’ from her gorgeous The Love Invention solo set [Skint/BMG BRASSIC128CD]. Indeed, from Bach Brandenburgs to Armin van Buuren’s chilled yet mighty A State Of Trance 2023 mix [Armada ARMA482], complete with suitably pounding club bass, these fifth-generation Amatis came up shining. Now all you have to do is find an amp capable of keeping them under control

Q Acoustics 5040 $1499 Review

We switch to Drake’s Under Ground Kings and the 5040s continue to impress. They convey the music’s momentum with conviction while allowing us to track every word of his distinctive drawl. These towers sound fast and fun. There is plenty of attack but enough in the way of solidity and refinement to avoid accusations of aggression.
This impression of a properly-rounded performer is reinforced as we work our way through our music collection. We spend an afternoon moving from Post Malone to Nitin Sawhney and then finishing with Miles Davis’s Sketches Of Spain, and never do these speakers sound out of their comfort zone.
