Auralic Aries G1.1 Review

October 19, 2022 Comments Off on Auralic Aries G1.1 Review

The Aries G1.1 maintains Auralic’s position as a serious competitor in the mid price streaming audio stakes, it isn’t inexpensive but will give the alternatives a very good run for their money. The Lightning DS control app alone raises it above the majority. The option of an SSD onboard is one that I would encourage prospective users to take up, it represents a significant saving on standalone drives of a similar quality and takes up no space either. Auralic have done a fine job with this latest addition to the range and anyone looking for a top notch streamer at a sensible price should give it a try.

Nordost QNet network switch & QSource linear power supply

October 18, 2022 Comments Off on Nordost QNet network switch & QSource linear power supply

https://www.stereophile.com/content/nordost-qnet-network-switch-qsource-linear-power-supply

When I ditched QNet’s switch-mode wall wart for the QSource, a touch of brightness I’d been hearing vanished and all the QNet’s positive effects increased. With more silence came more beauty and detail—and with it, more light and spiritual insight. Those insights aren’t always pretty—take Callas’s voice as Lady Macbeth—but they inevitably get me closer to truth, whose essence can be as terrible and earth-shaking as it can be beautiful and beneficent. I can honestly say that the QNet/QSource pairing transported me closer to my ultimate goal, which is to move closer to the source of artistic creation and the artists I love.

When I disconnected the Roon Nucleus+ server/streamer from the HDPlex 300 and powered it, as well, with the QSource, I heard even more color, detail, and clarity. As another veil lifted, images again grew in size and became more believable. Yes, I compared connector cable options. The Nordost premium QSource DC cables delivered more vibrant energy and subtle dynamic/ tonal shifts than the stock cables. The premium’s gauge is thicker.

PSB SYNCHRONY T600 TOWER SPEAKER $9,000 REVIEW

October 18, 2022 Comments Off on PSB SYNCHRONY T600 TOWER SPEAKER $9,000 REVIEW

PSB has literally put everything into these speakers. They’ve been designed from the ground up and no detail has been left unaddressed. From the precise drivers to the stone-like cabinet and its isolated aluminum front baffle and high-tech feet, everything here is devoted to delivering the best possible audio performance.

The PSB Synchrony T600 Tower Speakers are quite simply, the best speakers I’ve ever heard in my home. While I’ve had the chance to audition some frightfully expensive speakers at shows or in specialty shops, none have left so many positive memories as these.

TEMPOTEC VARIATIONS V6 REVIEW

October 17, 2022 Comments Off on TEMPOTEC VARIATIONS V6 REVIEW

In parallel, the Variations V6 also uses its own in-house FPGA-Master chip, working as the brain of the audio circuit. This audio system controller receives the data from the CPU, synchronizes and generates all audio clocks at the same time, then sends it to the dual DAC in I²S, or DSD.

Thanks to that, the DAC also supports ultra-high-resolution files, up to 32bit-768kHz in PCM, DSD up to DSD512, and full MQA decoding with MQA 16x, instead of the usual MQA 8X. In the real world, this means that the player is able to offer bit-perfect playback, with any kind of file, in every situation.

Pass Labs X260.8 Monoblock Amplifiers $14,000 Review

October 17, 2022 Comments Off on Pass Labs X260.8 Monoblock Amplifiers $14,000 Review

My ears were trained years ago, late at night, in dark recording studios. I listened to thousands of hours of music, through the iconic Yamaha NS-10 studio monitors. The NS-10s were legendary in their transparency. No musical sin could hide from these speakers. None. If there was a problem, the NS-10 would reveal it. The Pass Labs X260.8 monoblock amplifiers remind me of these speakers.

If you love power, grace, transparency, and (if you move your equipment around a lot) occasional back pain; I highly recommend you demo a pair of the Pass Labs X260.8 monoblock amplifiers or any of the Pass Labs .8 series amplifiers. You will not be disappointed. Highly recommended!
