“Moving on I do believe this cable is a well priced, and great accessory for the 99 Classics if you use a DAP with balanced output. I always found the mid-bass bloom on the 99 Classics to be a little overwhelming at times, this cable does not get rid of it completely but is sure is an improvement.What it brings to the table is increased control to the lower frequencies, making that bloom slightly less noticeable, and everything is a bit more precise. Moving on to the midrange you gain a little better air and separation around instruments, it lifts a slight veil off the sound. Vocals now sound a bit more realistic due to the more controlled low end, and the sound is a bit more open.”

“Sure, if you’re a Hi-Fi enthusiast, you’ll get more in many ways with its bigger brother. And while the LSX isn’t quite at home in my dedicated room, for me at least, it certainly has a place as a second system in the living area to be enjoyed by the entire family.
The crazed music fans fortunate enough to see Hendrix play Woodstock back in 1969 could not have even imagined this level of audio quality, or the convenience we have available to us today in products such as this.

“The few months I spent with AVM’s Ovation PA 8.2 produced only satisfaction and listening pleasure. I didn’t expect these moderately priced modules to equal or surpass the sound quality of my far more costly, standalone reference components, and they didn’t—but I also didn’t expect to be so satisfied with the sound quality of AVM’s inexpensive analog and digital modules, especially through the Tube Output card, which I highly recommend. I switched back to my reference gear only for comparisons with the PA 8.2, and when I was working on this month’s “Analog Corner.”
Modularity aside, the Ovation PA 8.2 performed particularly well as a conventional, all-analog line-input preamplifier. Its operating system, easy to configure and use, and its outstanding sound from all of its supplied modules—each offered at what I consider to be a very reasonable price—make the PA 8.2 among the most satisfying preamplifiers I’ve reviewed, especially when you consider that the interconnects linking my own outboard gear and preamp together cost more than the fully loaded PA 8.2. Crazy, no?”

“Anthem’s STR Integrated is a very musical amplifier which is capable of reproducing a wide range of instruments and vocals exceptionally well. Add in Anthem’s Room Correction functionality, and this is a component with vast appeal.
Overall it’s an excellent foray into the higher end of audio by Anthem. I have to admit I was not expecting an integrated amplifier that could play in the same price range as products produced by long-established companies such as Luxman and Accuphase, but I am delighted indeed to discover that my expectations were thoroughly exceeded. ”

“The JBL L100 Classic handily illustrates the differences in sound between box and horn speakers. At the Harman Store the L100 Classic sounded more tonally saturated, more fleshed out and bolder. Meanwhile the JBL 4429 was tonally cooler, more immediate and dynamics kicked harder. It had more spring in its step and its energy levels were higher. I found I could play the 4429s louder than I normally would, the high volume didn’t make me wince.
I was surprised to hear that even with heavily-compressed rock recordings like Spoon’s Hot Thoughts, the music sounded better than ever. The momentum came through more completely. Electric bass sounds more like the real thing over the 4429, there’s more growl and more of everything. The L100 Classic makes plenty of bass, but the tactile quality of the sound is much reduced. Reggae recordings burst through the 4429, electric guitars’ immediacy was likewise liberated by these speakers.”

“More to my tastes, the Zells excel at reproducing classical music (including power orchestral), jazz, acoustic instruments, electric guitars, synths, and voices of all stripes. When I listened to MTT conducting Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, the big tympani strikes almost jolted me out of my seat. The leading edges of transients were sudden and crisp, with no smearing. Both micro- and macro-dynamic swings were thrilling, with subtle details emerging across a broad and deep soundstage. As in a live concert, instruments had natural timbre and palpable presence.”
