“I’ve heaped praise on the PS2000e, but they’re not likely to satisfy audiophiles seeking ultimate accuracy — that’s not what’s going on here. The PS2000e are Grado sound at its best, and they’re handcrafted in Brooklyn under the watchful eyes and always-attentive ears of John Grado. And not just because they’re the most expensive headphones the company makes — Grado builds all of their full-size headphones in their Brooklyn factory, including the $79 SR60e!”

“The unit is specified to run up to 10 hours on battery power with IEMs or efficient headphones. With two sets of moderately efficient cans and one set of inefficient ones—the first three mentioned below, and connected one at a time—it ran my 57-minute playlist nearly three times, or fewer than three hours, before the red battery-discharged indicator went on. iFi clarified that their initial production had firmware that set the battery warning LED too conservatively and that the unit runs about twice the time indicated by the light. I verified that the Black Label did last a more reasonable five to six hours on a full charge irrespective of the LED. Current production has the updated firmware in place, and any customer in the field who encounters this and wishes to correct it can send their unit to iFi’s service center for a software update (http://support,ifi-audio.com). In any event, the issue is cosmetic and has no effect on the unit’s performance.”

“Listening mostly to whatever was on television before starting any serious listening I still was able to note right away a powerful, articulate sound. Voices have a clarity with the 240i. If there was a characteristic to the sound it would be what I call ‘chunky’ – distinct and pleasing edges. It goes especially well with rock and piano music. Anyway, there was a lot more listening to do.”

“Pro-Ject Audio seems to have also wrung out a lot of the dynamic range potential of the ES90382QM with a 124dB rating whilst retaining a very competitive THD rating of 0.0003%. I am used to seeing those numbers from the new Sabre Chipsets but still remain impressed when I see them. The total harmonic distortion plus noise of -120dB (THD+N) is also quite excellent.”

“Six months later I had access to a beta of Chord Electronics’ GoFigure app that, for iOS users at least, takes the hassle out of Poly setup: GoFigure exploits Poly’s Bluetooth connection for device config and operational mode change-ups (of which there are several). I began with Poly in Network Mode, connected to my home wifi network. Per the pinhole setup method, once rebooted, Poly’s LED flashes blue (on and off) whilst searching for the home network and locks green once connected.”

“Conclusion: Well I wasn’t sure what I was getting with the LUF-Turbo, I was expecting bass cannons but instead I was actually pleasantly surprised. These are not flawless, but nothing really is, what these do produce though is a very fun and engaging sound without major dips or peaks. Yes the bass is full and articulate, the mids sit a little behind but do sound quite good, and the highs are definitely there with good energy and sparkle. To get this sound from 2 dynamic drivers is no easy feat, add in excellent build and comfort and these are quite the budget IEM. These are one of those IEM’s you can put in and forget about when out and about; they are not made for critical listening, but for enjoyment.”
