“I remember being blown away by the AURALiC Vega playing DSD files. I can’t be positive because the Vega left my sound room many months ago, but I wasn’t as impressed with the Altair on DSD. Don’t get me wrong, DSD sounded great but just not as great as I remembered with the Vega. With DSD I had more of a sensation of listening to musicians playing in a definable space rather than in a studio. There was more air and separation more often on DSD than on .flac. ”

‘At the end of his review’s “Sound” section, Doug wrote: “Other than the Reference 3’s minor limitation of being unable to reach the very bottom of the audioband, I consider it to be among the most accurate and revealing speakers I’ve heard.” That combination of high accuracy and extreme resolution throughout most of the audioband is why the Reference 3 can be considered just that — a reference — and becomes the sixth KEF loudspeaker to be added to our list of Recommended Reference Components.’

OPPO Digital Sonica DAC Review

“The Sonica DAC on really well-recorded material can hold its own with any format with bass reproduction. Having said that, I must mention that with at least 75% of the digital recordings I have, the bass still seemed to have a one-note quality and lacked in air compared to my vinyl system. Admittedly, my vinyl system cost over $30,000 compared to $800 for the Sonica DAC. Still, this is no reflection on the Sonica DAC but the sad state of many digital recordings.”

NF AUDIO NF6I REVIEW

“Bass and dark wood instruments sound amazing on both monitors. The overall bass quantity of the NF6i is more comparable to the PP8 with activated bass boost, but the InEar will show more slam and greater impact than the NF Audio. (This is likely due to comparing a CIEM with a universal.) Surprisingly, the NF6 have a wider and deeper soundstage while boasting equally impressive layering and separation.”

“These are stunning, but sadly not in all departments quite yet. They no doubt look it, I don’t need to tell you that and minus a few little quirks like an annoying mic and short nozzles, build quality is great too. Ergonomics should be their main development next time around as even when I found tips that got a seal (bigger tips than I normally use and I went through much more) it was still a long winded process getting them to completely seal every time I stuck them in my ears.”

COPLAND DAC215 HEADPHONE DAC/AMPLIFIER -REVIEW

” Last, and in many respects best, comes the headphone amplifier section. This was uniformly excellent, with seemingly endless power in reserve and retaining that detailed, musical, ‘lovely’ vibe. Sounds were well placed in a soundstage as open as the headphones would permit, nothing taxed the amplifier (even ‘beast’ loads passed off uneventfully), and the overall balance of accurate and enjoyable made the DAC215 a great one-box solution. Interestingly, the move away from rock experienced in using only the DAC section of the 215 evaporated, and I was back to playing everything, and spending many hours doing so.”
